Highway 72 between North Courtland and Town Creek is a terrible Speed Trap. Also, supposedly the North Courtland Police are not certified by the state to write tickets on Highway 72.
Comment (11/2002): That statute is not any longer in effect. Municipal and county officers may not write speeding tickets on Interstate highways. And even then it is only speeding tickets which apply. Law Enforcement Officers have a duty to uphold and enforce state laws including traffic laws. So please, the next time you get a ticket, think about that before you start an argument. We all speed sometimes, and if you get a ticket for speeding, no matter how much you think you don't deserve it, at some point in time you earned that ticket.
Comment (5/2002): That is misleading. There was, at one time, a limitation upon townships with populations under a specific size, from issuing citations to motorists on State highways. That is no longer true. There is a school zone immediately adjacent to State Highway 72 and enforcement is understandable. Why they have a school located adjacent to a main highway, however, is not.
Comment (7/2002): They have a school close to a main highway because the school was there long before the main highway way was.
Comment (8/2002): That law is still in effect. Alabama law section 32- 5a- 171
