i listed baldwin county because most of the cities in balwin county are listed on this website.thats pretty bad.So you have to go through those towns to get to gulf shores, all these towns border next to eachother. If coming off the interstate ( 10 ) heading south you go through loxley first, then robertsdale, summerdale, foley, and at the end of hwy 59 is the cities of gulf shores and orange beach. also fairhope and daphne are just a few miles away. the worse out of these is loxley, summerdale, daphne, robertsdale, then after that is gulf shores and orange beach can also be called a speedtrap at times. I have never had too much trouble with foley, they're police officers allow a few miles an hour over and give warning tickets alot,so at least foley is fair. also outside of foley is the small town of elberta, they used to have the most ticket writings i've ever seen but they have backed off some but still if your going down U.S. 98 beware of elberta! there are 6 cities listed on this website from baldwin county! 4 of these are considered small towns! beware beach goers, our saying is,- " come to baldwin county on vacation and leave on probation!

Comment (4/2005): I have driven allover the world and have never seen swarms of Police so anxious to nail someone with a speeding tickets in Bay Minette, Alabama. These City Police of Bay Minette act as if you have robbed them if you proceed thru their city without a citation. Better Not Drive 2 mph over - they'll nail ya!

Comment (5/2005): Silverhill was not mentioned, and while it is a little off the direct route to Gulf Shores, it is one of those historic towns that some tourists like to visit. Be careful there.

Comment (12/2005): To the question of police cars hiding: Is it right for a police car to be behind a speed limit change in dense ocean fog in Robertsdale? Baldwin County is right up there with the famous speed trap road in Florida. Beware.

Comment (10/2005): These small town speedtraps are one of their chief sources of revenue, they know that you probably dont want to stop in their town while heading to the beach so they prey on anyone available to write a ticket as often as possible. I have lived here all my life and I know how they operate. Loxley, R`dale, S`dale mainly . I live in Elberta and have had numerous encounters with them in the last few yrs along with my 2 teenage drivers in the house. One Elberta zealot followed my daughter all the way to the house at about 10pm, hit the blue lights soon as she pulled into the driveway and started saying that he thought she was running from him. She didnt know who was following her on our dark 2 miles dead end road at night. I just got a ticket for over reasonable and prudent speed on this same road. Cop said >50 in a 35 up to 60-70 so she doesnt know how fsat I was going just that she was probably going 70+ to catch up with me to write a ticket on a dead end road. Wasnt she probably going over the prudent limit if I was , I guess that doesnt pertain to "professionals" Admit that I have had my share of speeding tickets that were my fault, because I Was speeding but the cops nearly always try to turn a speeding ticket into a felony arrest by interogating you on "reasonable suspicion" yeah right... Summerdale 11am "you havent been drinking have you", out of the car stand on one leg, follow my pen, blow your breath in my face...wonders why Im getting infuriated, figured out after he let me go with only speeding ticket that my blood sugar was getting low(type2 diabetic). I wonder if that "nice ocifer" knew anything whatsoever about diabetes, most likely NOT...Wonder how many cops anywhere know anything about anything other than what they can charge someone with and wring every cent out of potential victims. Do they care ?, not from what I have seen. Yes Beware of Baldwin Co in general, as I said most of these little towns have no real sustaining form of revenue besides tax

Comment (10/2005): Be careful in between Foley & Gulf Shores on hwy 59. Just before co rd 6, there is usually a Gulf Shores PD car in the median or off to the west side of the hwy along the treeline. You can count on them being there on saturdays & sundays. Good luck!

Comment (11/2005): Please! People of Baldwin County. Vote out of office your politicians! You see what is going on with yourselves as police use and misuse their power. The only way out is to vote them out! Even Mr. or Mrs. So-And-So that you like. You maybe suprised. I avoid Baldwin County at all cost (especially Robertsdale). Even when I had to go there, I stayed accross the state line in Florida to avoid giving Baldwin County and tax money. As long as your police are running a racket, count me OUT of at least any tax revenue. I would like to come back since I have a friend in Orange Beach, but as long as the Boys in Blue are acting like state sponsored terrorist, froget it. Please vote.

Comment (11/2005): South Baldwin county has become covered with state troopers. If they can't find some one speeding, they will pick a car and make up a charge. I was stopped, at the time I was stopped my son was asking questions about the vehicle gages, so he could see the speed. I was not speeding. After the trooper cited me I had to explain to a 10 year old why officers lie. How do you do that? Untill the state relaxes th ticket quota no one is safe from the troopers. This is a military state.

Comment (11/2005): I cannot understand the constant complaining about the police giving speeding tickets. If you obey the speed limit, you will not get ticketed. But, then you wouldn't have anything to complain about. I live in Summerdale and drive to Robertsdale every day. I have seen very few policemen stopping vehicles. But, I do encounter a great amount of people flying by me on the highway, certainly going much more than the speed limit. There are always the "lane jumpers" who think they can get one car length ahead by skipping back and forth between lanes and endangering everyone around them. I don't drive much further than Robertsdale or Foley very often, and have very seldom seen police cars "hiding." Most of the people flying down the highway have Baldwin County tags and probably are not hurrying to get to Gulf Shores. They just think they own the road and don't care whether they run over/into anyone else.

Comment (1/2006): I don't see these towns as speedtraps. In the "downtown" areas of these towns (R'dale, Summerdale, Loxley, etc) the limit is 35. It is not hard to routinely see people going 50+ I doubt these officers bother with five or even ten over. As to the comment on 'making stuff up'- Any one who has drven these roads for any amount of time would agree that there are a huge amount of violations. Why would the cop make something up when he can have his choice of fast and/or reckless drivers. Don't confuse active enforcement with 'speedtrap'. I don't think they are 'trapping' anyone, rather they are more like shooting fish in a barrel.

Comment (1/2006): I've lived in the Elberta/Foley area for 4 1/2 yrs and have not had a problem with unfair traffic police in general. Only once did I get pulled over unjustifiably in Fairhope (for doing >50 in a 30mph zone, which was definitely not true!) and when I showed up to protest the ticket, the case was dropped. One of my teenagers just got a ticket in Summerdale. She was driving the speed limit but it was very foggy and she should have been going much slower. Although I hate for her to get a ticket, I'd rather her learn by paying a fine instead of having an accident in the fog. However, going back prior to when we moved here and had out of state tags, we were pulled over twice in Robertsdale when we were not only going the speed limit, but were in the middle of a group of 5 or 6 vehicles, all going the speed limit. We were picked right out for being "tourists". Both times we were given warnings, thankfully, but it was painfully obvious that tourists were at risk. That was more than 5 years ago so I hope that's not so prevalent now. Just set your cruise for the speed limit, slow down to 35 or 30 in the middle of town and you'll be fine.

Comment (6/2006): I drive through Robertsdale two or three times a day in my work...They have people pulled over all times of the day...

Comment (4/2006): There is some truth to all of these posts. I think much of it is mostly a mix of hype and bitterness. Here is my take on it. If you are young and traveling in this area, drive the speed limit. If you don't, you will likely be pulled over and there is a strong possibility you will have your car searched for drugs. You will probably experience a body search as well. While traveling in Loxley, Robertsdale, Silverhill, Fairhope and Daphne, you will experience a feeling that you are being watched. Do not think your senses are betraying you because you are being watched. If you begin to feel this sensation, then slow down. Some of you may just want to find another beach and turn around if you feel you can not drive 35 mph on a four lane highway. I rate Silverhill as the worst town to travel of all the towns located in Baldwin County, Alabama. They have two squad cars, no real industry to mention, a Dollar General Store, two gas stations and about a half dozen antique shops. Something has to fund the payments for those two squad cars, the few police officers, the town hall, mayor and his staff. My guess is the poor people who don't live in the area and are passing through are the ones who get to pay. Don't travel the side streets of Fairhope either. This is an old town with some very questionable speed limits posted. Speed limits of 25 mph are the norm on these side streets and you have to drive them to understand the unfairness of the speed limit. Once again, younger drivers tend to catch most of the attention in this town. But I ask, hasn't it always been this way? In conclusion, what I really see here is nothing more than profiling. These cops are looking for drugs and they target younger drivers. If I had to classify one of these towns as a true speed trap town, I would say it is Silverhill. The good news is most people that don't live in the area don't ever have to travel to this small town and the locals usually know better and slow down while traveling through this

Comment (6/2006): If you are pulled over. Do not let anyone search your car without a warrent. They may say they can get one and/or use intemidation tactics. Lying is allowed and in cases where it is not, can you prove the officer is lying? Make them get a warrent even if you have nothing to hide. Do not make the mistake of "nothing to hide" ruin your life or cause a loss of "hours" of time and more than just frustation cut into your vacation. If they search your car without a warrent and any outcome, do not hire a local attorney, but opt for one outside of the Baldwin County legal click. Attornies concern if for "their" going concern, not yours.

Comment (08/2008): I HOPE THEY CATCH ALL OF YOU SPEEDERS. I AM SO TIRED OF PEOPLE PASSING ME ON BRIDGES, DOUBLE YELLOW LINES, INTERSECTIONS OR WHERE EVER. I SET MY CRUISE CONTROL AT THE SPEED LIMIT AND YOU SPEEDERS ARE BITING THE BULLET TO PASS ME. YOU ARE GOING TO KILL SOMEONE AND THEN IT WILL BE TOO LATE TO SLOW DOWN. I HOPE YOU GET CAUGHT AND THE PUT YOU IN JAIL AND THROW THE KEY AWAY.
