On I-59 North heading from Tuscaloosa toward Birmingham, immediately after the Mercedes Drive exit, there is a bridge over a local road. Just past that bridge on the left there is a median cut-through with some trees planted so approaching motorists can't see what is behind the trees. About 50% of the time in the mornings a State Trooper will be behind one of those trees, and you won't be able to see him until it's too late. This is still officially a "construction zone" so the speed limit is 55 and speeding fines are doubled, but the actual construction has been complete for some time and the actual roadway is a new, 6-lane highway. Most of the time, if the State Trooper is not there, it is because he has chased down some other unlucky motorist and you will see him on the side of the road in a few minutes.

Comment (7/2006): I live near that area, there is a lot of car accidents in that area. I hope that the Troopers are there to slow the traffic down. I leave early so can everyone else.
