The city of Athens have been pretty heavy patrol now for the last year or so. I have notice them a lot on Lucas Ferry Street and Elm Street because of this is the way I go to work in the mornings. I also understand they watch Highway 72 west where the city limit speed starts and the area around Athens High School.

Due to the number of automobile accidents occurring in Eastern Limestone County, the speed limit on Highway 72 has been lowered to **45mph WHEN RAINING**. Otherwise, the posted speed limit is 60mph. This speed limit is enforced from the Eastern Athens city limits to the Elk River Bridge (where Limestone County ends and Lauderdale County begins).

Athens city police routinely are in the parking lot at Jiffy gas station or in the medical complex accross the street. The speed limit drops from 40 to 30 in that area and the police wait for speeders. They WILL stop you for 2 or 3 miles over the posted limit.

ON Highway 31 in front of Athens High School there are cops set up on the side of the road, they are visible. This is during school traffic. Make sure you go the speed limit for school hours! When you turn left onto Hobbs road (right in front of Athens High School) on the left is a Southern Market (Bruno's) and a cop is usually in the back of that building sitting there.
