As soon as you cross into city limits near Degray Lake, there will be a patrol car on the side of the highway. Local Barney Fife like cop that likes to harrass people. Will issue ticket for anything he can find. Is usually out there at night.
Comment (5/2002): Cops will allow 10 mph over. Mostly looking for DWI's.
Comment (2/2003): A Caddo Valley cop got me coming off of I30, heading toward Hot Springs. The 35 mph sign wasn't very visable. Then almost immediately there is a 45 mph and within 50-75' of that is a 55 mph sign. The cop stopped me just shy of the 55 mph sign, said I was going 52, (remember, I'm in the 45 zone by now) and said I had been speeding up. (Well, yeah, the 55 mph sign was 5' away). He claimed I was going the 52 mph in the 35 zone (not possible unless I floored it like a race car driver coming off the line). I may have been going 52 in the 45 zone. When he finally brought me the ticket, it said 53 mph. I didn't notice that until later. I'm not sure what (if anything) he saw on the radar, but he couldn't get his story straight. Caddo Valley isn't very big, probably only a couple of miles of hwy belong to them, but boy they really work their little part.
Comment (2/2004): An very disagreeable policeman stopped me for allegedly going 70 in a 55 mile zone while descending a hill just south of DeGray Lake. He claimed I was going 70 at the top and he clocked me at the same speed going all the way down, despite the fact that heavy cars like my 91-year old mother's Lincoln tend to accelerate as they go downhill. My mother, who is a backseat driver, said she was watching my speed going down the road as she never saw me going that fast. The cop said I should be watching the speedometer while going down the hill! I obviously wasn't. Give me a break!
Comment (4/2004): 9 out of 10 times, I see someone pulled over on the stretch between Caddo Valley and Lake Degray when I pass through. Search for their legislative audits and you can see they look at traffic fines as a revenue source not safety concern.
