Speed limit used to be 35, but is now 40. No traffic. Speed limit should be 55. 90% of the time there is ALWAYS a cop when you pass through Augusta. They are "ticket giving" happy. Much worse than it is in McCrory or Bald Knob. I'm surprised this wasn't already on here.
Comment (7/2003): I was pulled over on 7-6-03 by an augusta sergeant and was ticketed for 22mph over and he advised that they start writing at 15 mph over. I thought that was fair.
Comment (8/2003): That "advisory" probably came from the police chief who recently received a DWI in Monroe county. I have known people that have gotten tickets for 6-9mph over the limit. So everyone slow down in this town.
Comment (10/2003): Never speed in any town on Hwy. 64 Especially Earl
Comment (8/2004): Augusta is the worst along 64, with Earl and Parkin nearly as bad. And McCrory has picked up more recently since there has been some commercial development (aka: "hiding places") and the passing lanes have been added. I've seen a patrol car several times sitting off to the side on the west side of town right where the speed limit drops to 45, aiming for east-bound traffic.
