I noticed this on the way to Little Rock this past weekend at a rest area on I-40: There's a good deal of Interstate road construction going on in Arkansas, and there was a notice posted at this one rest area from the Arkansas State Police that they have a NO TOLERANCE policy on work zone speed limits. If you're not in a work zone, you might be able to fudge a little, but I would STRONGLY advise you to OBEY the work zone speed limits TO THE LETTER or else you can expect to pay dearly for even ONE MPH over the limit (fines are doubled in work zones if workers are present).

Comment (1/2005): Lots of Troopers...if you meet the ones that run the interstate around Fort Smith, Alma, Ozark....be nice the trooper district is HARDCORE and doesn't take BS kindly and most have 0 sympathy.

Comment (7/2003): The Arkansas State Police have received federal grants to pay for the overtime needed too work the contruction zones on I40. One spipulation of these grants is you must write 40 tickets per 8 hour shift. Slow down or you will meet my friend in West Memphis.

Comment (7/2003): This defintley depends on the time of week and month. They usually won't mess with you unless you are going over 7. maybe 3 if it is "quota time"There has been contruction on I 40 for as long as I have lived here and I don't think they will ever finish.

Comment (7/2003): When going down I-55 towards or from Memphis, especially on the weekends watch out for troopers because they are there and they will pull you over. These guys don't play either.

Comment (8/2003): Actually the law stipulated that 3 cars must be stopped an hour for each hour of overtime that was worked. It said nothing about writing a ticket to each car that was stopped. In fact most troopers I know would rather write a warning than a ticket any day of the week but then again do you really deserve a warning for going 85 in a 60 mile an hour construction zone?

Comment (10/2003): Ticket was issued at 05:50 AM. Officer hidden from view. traffic was very light except for 18 wheelers.

Comment (12/2003): I believe I-40 through Arkansas rests on a fault line. It is also the most heavily traveled freeway in the USA for semi trucks. Ever notice how much smoother the left lane is? I was pulled over at night for going 78 in a 70 just south of Little Rock. I was honest with him that my cruise control broke in Texarkana and it was really hard to keep the truck at a constant speed. I told him that I thought I was keeping it at 68 to 72. I also told him I was on my way home to Little Rock AFB; he let go without even a warning and was very courteous.

Comment (10/2004): Yep...True, True.. Got a Hardcopy for 87 in a 70 Eastbound at the 104 Mile Marker. Deserved the Ticket, Paid the Fine went on with life.

Comment (12/2004): Speed Limit 70 trucks: 65 clearly posted on interstate highways

Comment (09/2007): The State Troopers like to sit in the median, hiding behind the overpass support. There are crash barrels that help to obscure them. This applies statewide, and not just in work zones. They also sometimes sit on top of overpasses or on the on ramp on the other side of an overpass, waiting for speeders. The Troopers here are very familiar with their territory and are wizards at finding the perfect spot so they can see you coming but you won\'t see them until it\'s too late.
