In several trips to Tucson, from Phoenix (during April&May-2004), I have noticed HW patrol having a penchant for patrolling in an area 40-50 miles out of Tucson, towards Phx on the I-10. This is near to the city of Eloy. Pay attention to your radar detector(s)in this area.

Comment (9/2004): Just south/east of the I8 interchange. Under Toltec overpass.

Comment (8/2005): Interstate 10 between the south end of Casa Grande and the last real Eloy exit is one of the most dangerous stretches of highway in the West. Speed is a problem, but more so is speed differential. If you are driving above the posted speed limit, you may not notice or have adequate reaction time to avoid a slow truck merging from Interstate 8, where there isn't much of a merge lane. The truckers aren't being slow to annoy you. They are being slow because the simple laws of physics do not permit them to accelerate any faster. Since this is close to the halfway point between Phoenix and Tucson, people start getting tired and impatient. Add trucks--and cars--slowing to exit at Sunland Gin Road to to the trucks merging from I-8 to the impatient and tired drivers, and wrecks become grisley. This is not an area to just pay attention to your radar detector. This is an area to pay close attention to everything around you.

Comment (12/2005): This is a very dangerous area. The DOT should add at least 1 additional lane in each direction from exit 185 through exit 209 due to the increased traffic. Casa Grande is expanding at an ever increasing rate and the traffic flow needs somewhere to go.
