A small town called Blythe which is right by California state line has a few lines of its interstate 10 designated "construction zone" complete with orange cones sometimes blocking a lane. Within a few miles, the posted speed limit will fluctuate - from 75mph to 55 to 35 to back to 55 then back to 35 and so on - to confuse motorists, and there are always cops waiting on the shoulder to nab anyone who do not follow these speed limites. Between 2001 and 2003, I drove this stretch many times in different days of the week and in different times of the day, and I have NEVER seen any actual construction work going on, which leads me to believe those orange cones and the supposed "construction zones" are just a scam to confuse motorists with varing speed limits then cite them
Comment (12/2006): Blythe is in CA, not AZ
Comment (11/2006): Please note that Blythe is in California - not Arizona. I agree with the "construction zone" scam mentioned by the previous comment, having driven that road for over 40 years!
