I have driven both directions on this highway many times in the last twelve months. On more than a few occasions, I noticed speed traps, police cars stationed on the highway's median strip between the towns of Mesa and Gold Canyon. Locals know very well about it, but unsuspecting speeders travelling above 65 mph be warned; my companion on an earlier trip last year was ticketed five minutes after we switched drivers on a long haul from Los Angeles.

Comment (11/2002): HP likes to sit at the Idaho Rd interchange-- It's right down the street from the AJ courthouse! that's where I got nabbed, back when the speed limit was 55. Three months later they increased the speed limit to 65. The road still looks the same to me- same concrete, same ramps. Maybe the city of AJ wasn't hurting for money anymore.

Comment (11/2002): On 20 Dec 2000, I was stopped at the Idaho Road interchange-- a mile away from the AJ magistrate's office. I was told that I was clocked doing 75 while passing a car that was doing 64. Officer stated 64 is "plenty fast" for the road. Funny he didn't say 55, which is what was posted at the time. Nonetheless, he still wrote me up for 75 in a 55. Many nice new stores being built in AJ--- but I don't mind driving 7 miles further into Mesa- just as a token of appreciation for the warm welcome I received in AJ.

Comment (7/2002): This is by far one of the worst speed traps in AZ.

West bound from IronWood drive in Apache Junction. DPS is close to this on ramp facing west. Almost everyday it's the same officer, but most days he changes directions so be on the look out.
