You're almost guaranteed to run into the Arizona Highway Patrol within twenty miles either side of Benson, AZ, which is on the eastern end of the state. Between Southern California and Texas, this was the one hot spot I'd found.
Comment (7/2002): This is the training location for Highway Patrol rookies when they graduate from the acadamy. If you get stopped here you don't get a warning.
Comment (8/2002): I myself have not seen heavy enforcement in Benson; maybe I'm lucky. Nonetheless, I would suggest that anyone stick closely to the speed limit between Tucson and the NM state line. DPS is always out there; somewhere.
Comment (12/2007): Got a ticket on Christmas Eve for 82 in a 75 on this stretch of I-10. I travel this area a few times a month and there is usually a cop sitting on the downhill side in the scrub heading into Benson on I-10 West. Go the speed limit in this area, it is definitely a speed trap.

One has to be especially careful near SR 80 and 7th Street as you are going towards Saint David and Tombstone, Arizona. The speed limit is 35 m.p.h. here and it is rigorously enforced. Also between the junction or beginning of SR80 and 4th Street West turns into 4th Street East until the Benson City limits they will stop you for ANY infraction at all - a license plate bulb that's burned out or anything.

at about 2:30pm coming down a moderate hill, at mile marker 214 sitting in the middle median facing east bound traffic (I-10) SITTING BACK IN THE DESERT SCRUB BRUSH you wont even realize he's there until youre on top of him and you can see him smiling as he lifts the radar gun to clock you. I have the pasport escort and it didnt go off until he smiled and pulled the trigger.meaning he doesnt clock everybody, but until youre right on him. VERY CRAFTY!. I received a ticket for 100mph in a 75mph posted zone. Start slowing down at about mile marker 112, believe that.
