Belmont is a cash cow for the police agency. They exploit commuters taking a short cut(because of conjested freeways) from I-92/280 to I-101 through Ralston Ave. Speed limits here are inordinately low(although I've never looked at the traffic surveys). I've seen motorcycle cops hiding out in the parking lot right after exiting to Ralston from I-92. I've also seen them hiding out a little further south(off a dirt road used for emergency access), another about a 1 mile further down behind a tree after the Ralston Middle school, another about mile further down right after the speed limit changes from 40 to 30 mph, and yet another about 2 miles further down where Ralston intersects I-101. They'll sometimes put out a mobile speed monitor(not a photo radar post!) when they're genuinly concerned about safety, otherwise they'll set traps for their revenue enforcement. Also, watch out if you continue heading into Redwood Shores(see that city for more info).
Comment (11/2002): Excellent Motor Traffic Units. Highly Skilled and Efficient at nailing the speeders with their Radar Guns or Eyeballs.
Comment (6/2004): This is a real cash cow. And, I've seen them out there. The best way to avoid them is to avoid Belmont - which hurts their merchants. Maybe they'll get the message!
