Officer was parked east of the 65MPH sign (4-lanes begin ~100 feet before the sign) stated that he used radar to verify my speed was 50 in a 35 as I passed him. The speed limit apprently was 35 but I was following an instate pickup when we passed him at 35 and began to accelerate at where it began 4 lanes. The officer stated he used radar as I passed his location on the side of the road no indication was given by my radar detector.

Comment (6/2005): i live in calhan, he has pulled over many people that i know persaonally

Comment (4/2005): Identical thing happened to me, same layout as above on 4/2005

Comment (4/2005): I am 65 years old, a retired from the US Coast Guard, gladly served my country, I have never broke the law, I had a top secret clearence with the CIA, my brother and I served in VietNam and after all that I get caught by a police officer who laughed when I told him I had never had a speeding ticket in 50 years of obeying traffic laws, he said it only took him 6 years to get his first. so much for the humor.I was a victim of the same trap, and I had been through the town of Calhan 55 times in 20 years.bitter of speed traps.

Comment (5/2005): What these people do not mention is that they are being clocked 1/4 mile east of where the officer is sitting, which is WELL within the 35MPH zone. You are not being clocked from where the officer sits.

Comment (5/2005): What this individual does not recognize is the fact that the 65 MPH sign is not relevant to the fact that he was locked by radar about 1/4 mile within the posted 35 MPH zone. The placement of the 65 MPH sign makes no difference whatsoever. If you began to accelerate at the 4-lane point, you were already past both the 65 MPH sign AND the officer, so you are obviously inaccurate in your story.

Comment (8/2005): After many trips through this town I went back through again in June 2005, I made sure I went did 35 or below on a Sunday morning. Well on the outskirts of town going west you can see the 4 lanes start and the 65 MPH sign, I did 35 until I passed the 65MPH sign I about 8 cars tailgaiting me and they were upset as they passed me. but I was not speeding. One thing I learned from this is it ain't 65 till you pass the sign.

Comment (3/2006): I go out to the paint mines every weekend. There's an officer parked right there at the Calhan cemetary where everyone has described seeing him. Just do 30mph thru the city, it's only about 4 blocks long!

Comment (3/2006): The comments here about speed traps in Calhan, are very accurate. The officers sit at this location for a reason (they can write tickets). Stating that one is in accurate in their assessment of events is incorrect. I have witnessed many receiving tickets for going 2 miles over the speed limit. But Hey, the town of Calhan has to make some revenue somehow don't they? Not only is there a speed trap on the West side of town, you can find them on the East side of town as well.

Comment (5/2006): a ticket for 2 miles over? yeah right! i think you are misinformed. no officer gives a ticket for 2 miles over. it's probally a street deal, so the driver will pay in a timley manner and reduce court time. the way to get around it is dont speed and pay attention to the signs!

Comment (8/2006): The above comment is written by someone who obviously hasn't left their own home town. My mother was written a ticket for going **1** mile over the speed limit - the only ticket she's ever gotten, in her life. I personally will be driving through Calhan in 2 weeks, and I appreciate this post and this site. Regardless of those above who try to discredit this guy's information (they're probably cops who do the traps), I'll be keeping this information in print right beside me. Thanks for all the info, guys.
