Continuing, consistent oncoming moving radar enforcement. The detector goes off about 75% of my traveling this corridor.

Comment (7/2002): I grew up in Buena Vista, there has been a speed trap in that area as long as I remember.

Comment (8/2002): It's actually Rt 285 between Poncha Springs and Buena Vista. They call this 'The Gauntlet'by the staties themselves. It is used for new trooper training

Comment (9/2002): 9/2002. Dang! I got nabbed on this one last weekend, between Salida and Buena Vista. Posted speed limit is about 10 MPH below reasonable.

Comment (9/2003): College kids going to WSC Gunnison dislike that stretch.. it literally is the gaunltet. Do the speed limit, or if an a hurry, just do 4 over, not anymore or you'll get pulled over.

Comment (11/2003): I don't see any comments in regards to how many fatalities or injuries as a result of going to fast in this area. I've had to pull a few dead people out of crashes as a result of going to fast.

Comment (5/2004): I travel all around Colorado and this is probably the heaviest patrolled area I see. Along with all the marked troopers, Chaffee County now uses white unmarked Dodge trucks as well. Be careful cautious when traveling through this 23 mile stretch.

Comment (5/2004): I used to travel this stretch of highway 1-2 times a month. You can count on seeing at least 3 patrolling officers on this 40 mile drag. The speed limit never tops 60 mph, though the highway possesses only smooth curves in the most "dangerous" places.

Comment (03/2008): Busted at mile marker 114, at night with no notice of decrease in speed limit from 65 to 50 at the crest of the pass. With on coming traffic on a 2 lane highway, I missed the sign and was issued a ticket for 69 mph as my cruise control allowed the car to increase in speed as I started the descent north bound on 285. No speed trap during the day interestingly enough on my return trip. Also a unmarked Ford Explorer set up at intersection of highway 285 and 17, at GG.
