This is a big intersection where people go towards or come from Maryland's Rt 50 and BWP routes. Photo radars are at every corner! I got a $50 ticket there two weeks ago via mail for going over 12 mph over even tho I was going along with the traffic!
Comment (4/2004): I think D.C. govt. is making a fortune on this because I too have had the experience of going with the flow of the traffic and getting ticketed through the mail, TWICE. The cost of the ticket depends upon how fast you are going: one of my tickets was for $50 and the other for $100! I think everyone knows that if you slow to the speed limit when heavy traffic is exceeding the limit, you pose a greater safety hazard than keeping up with the traffic.
Comment (4/2004): The speed trap is bogus, but I do wish the would ticket the red light runners there. I drive thru the intersection going west at lunchtime, and east at night. When I'm driving at lunchtime, I can expect at least 10 (that's right, 10!) vehicles running the left turn light going from NY ave east to Bladensburg RD northbound.
