I've been noticing lately the local police doing laser enforcement again. They sit off the shoulder against some trees on the southbound side of Route One just about seven miles south of the Dover Air Force Base. It's hard to see them until too late. The speed limit is 55, but traffic easily and safely does 70+. They have been using a marked white car with no roof lights, and a dark colored unmarked dodge intrepid or similar car. They only have a couple of cops now, so it varies when you will see them. They used to have more cops and strictly enforced the 55 mph limit as they gave out additional tickets for not signaling when pulling over,etc.. They were taken off the road by the State, now they seem to be back. Tourists going to the beaches beware of the "55 mph strictly enforced" signs there. NOTE: local towns in De. get to keep the base fine amount on a ticket, which causes strict enforcement.

Comment (4/2005): The town has now disbanded the police force, it should be safer to drive this stretch without getting bogus tickets. You still have to be careful of the State Police on Route One.

Comment (2/2006): No more local Police, DSP now patrols area but not very often

Comment (3/2006): I used to live in Del. I travelled Rt13 in both directions daily. Anyone doing 70+mph should be pulled over. There is way too much cross traffic to be doing more than the posted 55mph. I do agree that the reduction in the speed limit from 55 to 45 to 35, athough well posted, does happen in too short a distance and is a speed trap.
