Alachua PD sets up traps along the inerstate. usually two cars one tags the other bags.
Comment (7/2005): Alachua is not a speed trap there is plenty of room to slow before you enter city limits
Comment (8/2005): I've seen them get people there. They hide in the trees in the median.
Comment (7/2005): I have seen this a lot lately. It is becoming more common along I-75 in Lake City area too.
Comment (7/2005): I have seen this along Interstate and 441 from Gainesville to the City of Alachua. I have seen the two car tag team....I have also seen it where one sits hidden in the trees or at the bottom of a hill and then people are busted by another cop about 2 miles down the road.
Comment (7/2005): Alachua PD is very agressive in ticketing and tickets are a big revenue generator. Besides I-75, they also write anywhere in the large town. Generally, if you do 10mph over the posted limit, you are fair game, especially on the interstate. They have recently started using a decoy on US Hwy 441. They are probably too busy to write the number of tickets they would like to write...the City of Alachua is under intense financial pressure, and over 1/3 of the City budget goes to their police department. The PD has denied there are ticket quotas for officers, but disgruntled officers have in the past claimed there are quotas they have to meet.
Comment (11/2005): I have drivin to and from Gainesville more time that I can count, each time I have consistantly gone between 80 and 85 and I have yet to recieve a ticket. Just gotta keep your eyes open.
Comment (2/2006): Last time I came through Alachua at about 2:00 p.m. there was one car with laser and about 6 cars pulling people over. See patrol cars anytime of day or night.
Comment (4/2006): As a frequent traveler between Tampa and Gainesville, I can say that I have seen my share of law enforcement officers on I-75. Yes, you will see more on the stretch from Alachua county, north to the Georgia line. Do I think it's a speed trap? No way! Do you know that this area has one of the highest rates of accidents and fatalities in the state? I'm not opposed to driving slightly over the speed limit if traffic is light and weather conditions are good but these people driving 85-100 mph in a 70 mph zone need a wake-up call!
Comment (7/2006): Alachua PD is always out on 441 between I-75 and Gainesville. Favorite hideouts: trees and buildings from McDonalds (just off I-75) to Hitchcocks grocery, looking south mostly; the little private streets just leaving (east of) town; and continually cruising from the east side of Alachua to Gainesville, often sitting behind trees at the median. -Gainesville resident
Comment (09/2007): If you do ten mph over the limit you are fair game? You should be.
Comment (04/2008): Alachua PD got me going 83 mph on I-75. Typical scene, cops hiding in tress inside the median and using their radar on people going downhill. Watch out everywhere in Florida but especially the area around the University of Florida. This was a $160.00 ticket!! Florida is cutting local tax rates and cops are making up the revenue anyway they can. This is only going to get worse as Florida is a major tourist state and there is widespread sentiment to shift budget issues away from locals.

Turning slight right onto FL-25 from US-301 speed limit changes from 35 to 15 with an officer sitting there with radar and gets your speed before you get to the posted 15 mph. Then hits you with a double charge because it is a school zone. There is no chance to slow as buildings block the sight of speed zone until you are on top of it.
