The Georgia State Patrol, Lamar County Sheriff police, and Barnesville police. Are constantly patroling the are at random times. The speed limit of 55 is low and insane for this rural area.Gordon College students are pulled over all the time. They usually hide in the medians or side streets.

Comment (9/2004): Most of the traffic along that road, in the mornings and afternoons mostly, are college students going to Gordon, they need to stop interrogating these kids they are just trying to go to school.

Comment (12/2003): I agree completely. This stretch of US 41/341 is no different than the supposedly "rural" highways in North Georgia that are posted 65, except that it would shut down the Lamar County ticket mill if the limit were raised. It is easy to claim that a speeding problem exists when you keep the limits lower than what the general free and safe flow of traffic is.

Comment (4/2004): The speed limit on 41/341 is set by the state. Not Lamar Co. So stop your crying and slow your ass down.

Comment (7/2004): There are provisions in the state law that allow local municipalities to lower speed limits for "safety reasons". Also it doesn't take alot of brain power to realize that the politicians there have probably actively opposed any proposals to raise the limit so they can keep the ticket racket going. Just because the county doesn't have a direct hand on setting the limit doesn't mean they don't have a large amount of influence over it.

Comment (9/2004): Speed limit should be raised to 65 from Barnesville to Griffin

Comment (12/2004): Some additional information abou this location. The city raised hell at the state and the limit on the portion of 41/341 was dropped to 45 mph! Most of the city streets are 25 mph. My Valentine detector gets a workout around here. Keep in mind Georgia state law requires city/county law radar must allow 10 mph before they can write a ticket. The only exception in school zones. That applies west of the city on Hwy 18.
