Going north to Alpharetta, passed one motorcycle cop that had already pulled over someone. The second one about a mile north stopped me for speeding. This was about a mile before getting to the Northbridge Road exit. The officer was nice but when I asked for a warning since it was my first violation, he denied my request. I was clocked going 86 in a 65 but the flow is very fast any day of the week. Recently have seen an increase in motorcycle cops on the northbound commute in the morning and the southbound commute in the afternoon.
Comment (9/2004): The speed limit on Ga400 is 55 mph not 65mph. SLOW DOWN.
Comment (12/2004): Correction! The speed limit on Ga 400 changes from 55 to 65 miles per hour. Anywhere in metero Atlanta, you can "usually" get a way with 14-15mph over on the interstates. 9mph on side streets
Comment (2/2005): Tt is dangerous to drive the speed limit in Atlanta. Most everyone drives 70-80 MPH on Ga 400
Comment (2/2005): The exit is called NorthRidge Not NorthBridge. The police are very bad on Hwy.400 North or south all the way to toll rd going South, And north all the way to Lake Lanier.
Comment (5/2005): I agree. The traffic flow is deceptive and you can almost cause an accident driving the speed limit.
Comment (6/2005): I agree. By driving less than 65mph on GA400 between Abernathy and Windward Pkwy, you may get rear-ended.
Comment (12/2005): Funny, 65 is the speed limit for most, if not all of that section of GA 400. Seems like you can run the speed limit and not risk getting a ticket and still not get rearended in traffic, huh?
Comment (12/2005): I've passed through there in the last few months and have seen the M/C cops too.
Comment (12/2005): I just got a ticket today. Going north on 400 where 285 merges into 400. I was trying to move into the center lane to make room for merging traffic, boom, 82 in a 55. Its my first ticket ever (im 26), should I go to court and plead "no-lo" or just pay the $210 fine?
Comment (12/2005): Plead nolo - it should keep it off your driving record, if it is your first such plea in 5 years. Pleading guilty would make sure it was on the record and the fine will be the same either way.
Comment (1/2006): The 65MPH section of GA 400 has just been changed to 55 and listed as a Construction Zone speeding is now up to $1000. Beware all.
Comment (2/2006): Yep...expect to see the Fulton County/Roswell/Alpharetta revenue patrol out in force now. Speed limit has been dropped to 55 from just past the MARTA station all the way up to Cumming. NO WORK has begun on the southernmost stretch, yet they lowered the speed limit anyway. When questioned about the move, the Georgia DOT and DPS both replied that it will be a full time "work zone" regardless if anyone is actually doing any work. What an absolute crock!
Comment (3/2006): On any of the major highways running through Atlanta, on the parts of 400, I-20, I-75, I-85 outside of the perimeter hwy. I-285, if you are doing less than 75 you are causing problems by impeding the flow of traffic. Slowpokes need to stay to the right.
Comment (5/2006): Stay to the Right is the rule. I have to admit I am one of the ones usually going the speed limit or close to it. It really does save on gas. But I always use the RIGHT lane and never have a problem with people almost hitting me in the rear. I fact I sometimes have to move left a lane and pass someone. :) It is also surprising how many times I am passing those in the left lanes. :)
Comment (12/2007): One of their own came out with a course that is showing people how to fight the ticket and win- http://www.fight-the-speeding-ticket.com
