Speed trap is in the middle of a work zone. The speed limit goes from 75, to 65, to 50. Radar is on over-pass, with several units STANDING in road pulling over traffic. Three cars at a time. Due to the work zone, fine DOUBLES! Mine was $280.00 for 71 in a 50. I made the 4 hour drive down to fight it, and was able to get the fine reduced to $180.00. It appears Cook County sees this work zone, as a great source of revenue.
Comment (5/2006): I agree with the trap I work on the road construction in Lowndes Co. If yall would slow down it makes it safer for all of us working. The fines need to be no less than $500.00 for ten over. Slow down I love going home every day to my wife and kids.
Comment (7/2006): TRUE. They also use laser on the over-passes. Also, there were no construction workers present that day I got mine. Hey Cook county, forget the revenue and fight crime!
Comment (9/2006): I work in Cook County as an EMT and I get to see - up close up personal - the results of you guys speeding through these construction zones. You're not there but a few minutes maybe at the most. But we're dealing with wrecks out there on a daily basis. And no, it's not about the revenue, it's about the lives!
Comment (12/2006): Looks to me if you had of slowed down you wouldn't of been in that situation. hope the 4hr drive was worth it.
Comment (01/2008): yea these guys use this interstate as their cash cow, during the nite, no constuction and no traffic, still got a ticket 65 in 50, during the day trucks and other cars running 80 no one got tickets, was right behind truck when got stopped however cop never stopped trucks, said they are just making a living making deliveries.
Comment (04/2008): IT is a speed trap, believe it. 3 in the morning, and no traffic, no construction. It is all about revenue. Just look at all those new chargers south of macon. wonder what they are going to do if and when they complete the construction?
Comment (06/2009): Total speed trap. No workers present and I got a ticket for doing 66 in a 50 mph zone as I was slowing down from the 60 mph zone I was in.
Comment (06/2009): The speed limit drops from 70 to 60 for about 10 miles and then it drops to 50 for one mile at mile marker 49. The state patrol and the city of Adel sit on the overpass with laser. The speed limit goes for 60 at mm 48 to 50 at mm 49 and back to 60 at mm 51. No workers in the area just a revenue generating machine.
Comment (07/2009): Total speed trap, they only target familys on vacation and driving through to Flordia, not truckers. I used to stay overnight in Adel or Macon driving from wisconson on my way to FL. Now I stay in east ridge TN then drive 75 south during the day. I will never spend another penny in ga after getting a ticket 4 years ago. I think we all should boycot GA.
Comment (07/2009): Crook County got me last week, 68 in a 60. It is totally work that they trap you into the work zone bs when the truckers are the ones makeing some car drivers speed, how would you like to get tailgated with a 18 wheeler that weighs 60,000 lbs when you have your 2 yo daughter in the back seat.
Comment (08/2009): Beautiful Sun Morn behind a 16 wheeler slowing down to 50 with traffic, Blam, laser ticket when doing 50 mph. 16 wheeler not ticketed. Out of state plates. No Traffic, No Workers. No Fair.
Comment (09/2009): Totally agree on family theory. He got us 70 in 50 zone. We are out of state and going to Disney. We were being tailgated by a local and he never worried about them.
Comment (09/2009): You can also blame the Ga. DOT. It took five years for these idiots to complete Lowndes County. Makes you kinda wonder though about kickbacks in delaying this fiasco for revenue. It is damn near impossible to figure out the speed limit. Check out Georgia statutes. If there is no activity(which usually there isnt) you cannot be charged for the additional fee of speeding in a construction zone. You may have to appear but the additional will be dropped. Cook county is hoping that you wont. Low rent, bottom dwelling, scum sucking politics as usual.
Comment (10/2009): This speed trap is still in affect as of October 10. Cops using laser.
Comment (12/2009): Beware, believe all the comments!!! Its a straight up speed trap!!! Just for money!!! I got stopped at the END of the work zone, no workers present the construction is acutally stopped on the south bound side. And that is where I got stopped at. 60 in a 50 and it is $376. They did reduce it for me to $215 however, that is still crazy!!! Someone needs to do something about this and it may just be me. I do currently live in Cook County so I do know how they are. So BELIEVE me it is a speed trap!! No one goes 50mph especially the trucks.
Comment (12/2009): I drive this stretch of highway everyday from Hahira to Tifton, to keep their radar signatures down and not let people who have radar detectors know where they are they sit on or near a overpass and use points of reference with a stopwatch to estamate your speed if you beat time they have figured between points they will then race down on highway and shoot you with radar to verify your speed and give ticket. I almost got caught but have a CB radio in my vehicle and a trucker notified me as soon as I passed exit 41 of a cop coming down on ramp I pulled on my emegency brake lightly to slow down (so my brake lights would not come on). as soon as I did my radar unit went off and he was right behind me but I was doing speed limit so he got off at next exit.
Comment (12/2009): Yes, all of I-75 in GA is a Speed Trap. The overly aggressive patrolling of I-75 is actually making the rest of Georgia roads more deadly. Drunk drivers are killing more people on 2-lane roads than people dying in interstate highway crashes. Local GA deputies need to stop the bugularies and murders in these small towns and stop the Barney Fife charades on I-75. High fines results in fewer tourist coming through or staying in GA. Whatever state officials thinks they are gaining in excessive fines revenue is being lost in tourist avoidance.
Comment (12/2009): I totally agree that it\'s a revenue generating device. I was driving at same speed as all other vehicles around me. If I were to have slowed down, I\'d have been run over by the semi\'s. No construction going on anywhere. The entire time he was writing my ticket up, trucks and other vehicles were going by at 60-70 mph. I pulled out into traffic and after accelerating to 50, cars behind me were on my tail and blinking their high beams. When I told him that I didn\'t see 50 mph signs posted, his reply was \"Yeah, I know. That\'s what everyone says\". If that\'s what everyone says, MAYBE they need to do a better job posting them. I\'d be embarrased to be a law enforcement officer in this piece of shit town.
Comment (12/2009): Cook county had 4 cops patrolling their tobacco road section of I-75. They really need the money. No jobs or taxpayers to fund the Sheriffs dept. Slow down aroubd MM57 and let them live off peanuts.
