City of Bloomingdale expanded it's city limits to include I-16 and then lowered speed limit on I-16. There are only 1 or 2 on / off ramps and is wooded area along this section of I-16. It is constantly monitored by 1-2 Bloomingdale city police with radar and lasar. If this is not a speed trap, I do not know what is.
Comment (9/2002): Yes it is a trap, espeially if it's on I-16. What was the limit lowered to? If you ask me it's bad enough driving the netire lenght of I-16 at 90Mph, not to mention 70. The limit on I-16 should actually be raised to 75 or 80 if you ask me.
Comment (6/2004): Bloomingdale has only the PD dept and a couple of other businesses, so they must have the traffic ticket money to finance the city. I was stopped by a very polite young man around 11:00 pm who had been hiding in the bushes in the median. My fee was around 300.00. There was no one else on the road, it was a clear and dry night and the road is straight. I-16 is a very long, straight interstate with very few exits. It goes from Macon, Ga to Savannah, GA there are very few towns in between. I had never heard of Bloomingdale until I received my ticket, but now Iv'e paid the mayor's salary!
Comment (6/2004): The officers here are very inexperienced (Savannah or Chatham wannabees that cannot even pick out the vehicle that was speeeding. i.e. the 18 Wheeler (80 mph) coming right up behind my Mustang (73 mph)), and with Judge "Greed" make their money off of speeders. The Judge says there is no quota....whatever.
Comment (02/2008): I live in Bloomingdale. I\'m 60 and drive a small car. In nearly 5 decades of accident free driving I\'ve had 3 tickets. One was 40 years ago. In the last 2 years since moving here I\'ve had 2 tickets issued to me by Bloomingdale PD. Each was for 62 in a 45, something I would not do. It\'s common knowledge here that if you attend the traffic court and enter a guilty plea, the judge drops the 62 to 54 and no points go on your license but your fine is still stiff. Court is a cattle call designed to generate revenue as quickly as possible. Barney Fife lives on...in Bloomingdale.
Comment (03/2008): Hwy 80 rout.26 has been enlarged from two lanes to five. From Cherry street too Hwy. 17 in Effingham county. Since this has happened there has been nothing but bloomingdale pd. on this part of the road. Not Effingham police. Boomingdale sits on the side of the road. Next to a lake lights off, tucked in tight to a guard rail. Waiting for there next victim. Don\'t expect a Warning you will be ticketed.
Comment (08/2008): I just experience their kangaroo court. I was supposedly clocked at 67 in a 45...I was not going over 60 since I thought it was 55. I was \'strongly\' urged to go to court by the officer becuase \"the judge will usuall help you out with points.\" So I went and realized I was part of a scam to rake in money. EVERYONE\'S \"speed was reduced\" as to not add points to your license. In other words, they don\'t want any indicator of your ticket to go to the state or insurance companies so that they don\'t find out about their little money making scheme. Also, for a couple teenagers and college students, the judge gave them a choice of \"a huge fine\" or \"defensive driving school AND five visits to church.\" Absolutely rediculous and I will be reporting this. What a farce. STAY AWAY!

Bloomingdale is the next city from Pooler, already listed here. There is no street safe here for even the smallest infraction. Whether on I-16 or Highway 80 or the Deloach Parkway, Bloomingdale police generate most of this tiny city's revenue by running speed traps from many hidden spots on all the roads. The judge reduces every one in rapid fire fashion to an amount that won't put points on your license but still inflicts a heavy fine, that way, nobody argues their ticket. Cash only, please, when you pay. The ATM is right over there...
