The speed limit drops on a divided highway from 55 to 35 mph. No speed surveys have ever been conducted to establish safe and reasonable speed. This is pure money maker for Keaau township.

Comment (1/2006): There is no Keaau township. All fines either go to the County or State, usually the state (the state building is where I paid my ticket).

Comment (3/2006): Agree. The Hawaii County Police Department is the least professional enforcement agencies I have ever had to deal with second only to the Department of Land and Natural Resources enforcement people.
