driving fast on 6th (by the stadium and commuter parking lot) late at night is a bad idea, unless you want to see the lights in your mirror. this is especially bad on weekends at bar close. again, ISU Police is great at giving warnings as they are looking for bigger fish to fry than your speeding. just dont pretend you are NASCAR revisited and you shouldnt have to pay too much money.

Comment (10/2002): The street this person is actually referring to is 4th street, or as I like to refer to it, OWI alley. It's especially easy to speed heading east as the hill there forces you to coast at about 40 mph when it is a 25 zone. Beware coming home from the bar.

stange just north of the ISU campus is a bad place to speed right under the railroad bridge. speed limit is 25, you should do 25.

mortensen pkwy west of state and east of south dakota is especially bad late at night. ISU Police are pretty tolerant with excess, but when you are going 10 or more over the limit expect to get stopped. ISU Police is good about giving warnings just look out for additional charges including DUI or arrest warrants ;)

Towards city limits ( when you start to see all those parks), heading eastbound on 13th street, when you come down the hill with a graveyard on the right there will almost always be a police office sitting in the driveway. This is the ideal place for a speed trap because of the cover on the right and the fact that the hiding spot is at the bottom of a hill. There is no way of telling whether there is an officer there until you are right on top of him. Also, the speed limit changes to 45 mph right after the hill. You should generally go 35 ( the posted speed ) because I have seen people picked up for 2 miles over!!!

The police like to hang out in the unitarian church parking lot and pick people off, this is not a very important trap, but you may get caught here. It is on the west side of the street on the North end (towards 13th street) The speed limit is 35 and you can generally get by at 45.

You can see the speed limit sign. The area is non-residential and the speed drops arbitrarily from 45 mph to 35 mph. The speed limit sign is on a light pole, but the light is apparently not working. This location is especially a problem after dark.

As you head east on Mortensen, away from South Dakota, an officer will sit behind some shrubs and trees on the right side of the road as you approach State Street. All times of the day, especially mornings as early as 6AM.
