1 DM Police car hiding behind Freeway signs shooting radar on to the freeway. 4 or 5 others on the on ramp. Raidos description of car to an officer in the trap and pulls you over on the freeway. Typically anything 7+ MPH over gets pulled over.
Comment (5/2002): Des Moines police are out in force the next few years as I-235 is rebuilt. Beware the above area mentioned between the hours of 10:30pm and 2am. The only time I've heard of someone successful at eluding was one smart driver who quickly got off onto 63rd St.
Comment (10/2002): Not sure about everyone else, but my radar detector lights up anytime I get near this bridge whether a cop is there or not. Just be careful here.
Comment (9/2003): If you are going the speed limit, it is never a problem
Comment (6/2003): Similar operation is being used on the 31st Street Bridge affecting westbound traffic. Same for the 63rd Street Bridge with both eastbound and westbound traffic being affected.
Comment (1/2004): Common enforcement on weekdays beginning at 5:00 pm. With warmer weather, officer stands on bridge and shoots radar gun between the signs. I have also seen them standing outside the car on the onramp - 1 with the gun - several lined up on the on ramp to pursue.
Comment (07/2008): Obviously if you are going the speed limit...you wouldn\'t be looking at this site to begin with. Who keeps leaving the comments that \"If you\'re going the speed limit, there is no problem\". DUH!!

The police will be parked inside the park which is completely hidden from traffic coming from the west. The only speed limit sign is several blocks back. The police officers stand behind a bush using the handheld radar and then walk out in front of you to motion you over.

There is a police car sitting "discretely" along the freeway by the Guthrie Avenue exit about 90-95% of the time I drive along this part of I235 between the hours of 5:30 and 9:00 pm. Be CAREFUL!

The cop will park on the overpass behind the big green road signs. All that is visible is his lights on top the car if you look carefully. Then waiting on the on ramp are the cops to pull you over nice and quick. I see it most often during morning and night rush hours.

Cops can be found radaring anywhere between 48th and 55th street on franklin ave on the south side of the road. Commonly found hidden towards the back of the Mercy center or hidden behind the senior center. Cop tends to be pretty strict from what I've heard.

An officer will hide at the beginning of locust, the one way that goes east through downtown and is the main strip of "the loop." He will pull you over for going just a few over the posted limit (25mph) then relentlessly write you fix-its or any other type of ticket he can come up with. BEWARE, officer is very rude, strict, and will not give warnings. He will even get out a tape measurer too see if your car is too low to the ground, just to show how far he will go to fine you.

Cops will sit along this strip from the Target clear to Walgreens on beaver ave. Especially on nights that Porky's has biker night and hot rod night. If you have a modified car or a bike be especially careful.

The Des Moines Police traffic unit seems to "poach" on the south end of the Hubbell Ave, between Grand Ave and University Ave. They seem to sit in the evenings after 5:30pm. The stretch of Hubbell roadway includes a bar and multiple hispanic businesses. Pretty easy pickings... They often sit in business lots that are closed after 5pm. Sometimes they seem to tag speeders, but I'd guess there are a lot of suspected drunk driver stops as well.
