Cops sit in the funeral home with Ka Band radar. They also use laser occasionally. The also sit just south of 9th street. Also the highway patrol has been sitting with their radar on as well. Posted 25mph, but most traffic goes at least 30-35mph.

I've noticed they sit up there mostly during AM/PM rush hours. I have also seen them sit UNDER the same overpass, still tracking interstate traffic during non-rush hours as well.

Also I know of cops in Ankeny who pull over kids and make up stuff and accuse them of doing something wrong when they never did anything. Such as a person delievering food, and he was accused of having the munchies (it was his job to deliever food), and it smelled like weed. So they searched the whole car. It's stupid things that are not needed in any town, especially Ankeny, IA. You really can't stop them from siting somewhere, but I do think some of the speed limits around here, such as state street should be raised. However radaring doesn't also stop cops for busting people since there bored. If they can't find something wrong when they pull you over, they will try to find something.

Comment (12/2005): this is what i know about ankeny from my driver improvement classes that i was ordered by the cops to take and that is its a dare community in other words no mercy i personally been busted 3times on 1-35 btwn the 2 or 3 exits ankeny have cant remember since i moved out of there my advice slow down keep youre music down and if a teenager try smilling or pullover a gas station and buy a soda when one of them is behind you

The one that took my license asked all sorts of questions, trying to catch me in a lie. The other was very accusatory with my friend and was very mean with the questions and didn't treat her with one ounce of respect. He also made it seem like she liked getting tickets and hitting cars, becuase she had an accident on her record (it wasn't her fault in any way, the other person lied, but they believed the other person anyways.) and another from way back in highschool. And he gave her a ticket for improper use of lanes! How redicalous is that? A full ticket for accidentally cutting someone off. They didn't cut her one ounce of slack.

The Ankeny City Police seem to feel they need to patrol the Interstate for the Iowa Highway Patrol. I'm sure it has nothing to do with raising extra revenue. FWIW, Many of the Des Moines suburbs patrol the Interstates more regularly than their city streets. The police will park behind barriers and on overpasses and give citations that probably truly fall in the realm of the Iowa Highway Patrol. They cite Ankeny residents, old or young, equally with through traffic.

Cops are illegally parked on a private drive that leads to a retirement home. Once they stop somebody, they then contribute to traffic congestion. Cops selectively inforce laws in Ankeny, Iowa. Beware.
