One aircraft, 6+ Iowa State Patrol cruisers.. listen in with scanner to hear them pointing out car description/number in line from stopping officers.. it's sick, and all about money, rather than safety.

Comment (12/2002): I got pulled over with Illinois License plates, where the speed limit decreased to 50. I was going about 65. The officer said he clocked me at 95. When I asked to see the reading on the gun, he said "by law I am not obligated to, so I won't I haven't paid the ticket yet because I am a poor college student working 4 jobs. This bites!

Comment (9/2002): They've being workin' this one for years - especially like to stop out of state cars - figure they won't be there to fight it and will pay! Luckily CA is no reciprocal with Iowa and I never paid the ticket they gave me in '97! They had SEVEN cars pulled over on a Sunday afternoon, and every one of them had out of state plates. what a scam!

Comment (4/2003): Just wanted to say that they DO, under law, have to show you their radar certification if you ask, or the judge can throw it out. Sometimes they will try and screw with you to see what they can get away with. BEWARE when asking for certification; it will most likely tick them off and they won't cut you ANY slack (not that would.) My advice (for instate drivers, this won't help out-of-state), save it as a last resort, such as if they pull you over for doing 6-9 mph over. They might just let you off with a warning, if that's all you've done.

Comment (6/2003): You have to provide the certification at trial, if there is one. Officers do not have to show a violator the reading on the radar.
