This is when you leave Sandpoint going north towards Bonners Ferry and Canada. The highway becomes a four lane highway and the zone changes from 45 to 60 - not 65 as much of US 95 is zoned. Once you are in the four lane stretch be aware that Bonner Co. Deputies will stop and cite for less than 10 over. Even a couple of the locals stated it's a speed trap and to watch out. As I was on the 4 lane highway in the slow lane I got passed by a pickup with local plates when the deputy passed the both of us. Guess who he stopped and cited for 7 over.

Comment (6/2006): People don't realize that US.95 is probably the most dangerous highway in the state of Idaho. There have been more deaths due to accidents on US.95 than anywhere else in Idaho. The only way officers can cut down on the injury and fatal crashes is to patrol it heavy and hope to keep the people alert. You people whine because you get a ticket but if you would obey the law we could cut down on the deaths and injuries. I for one think the police are doing a great job. Remember these police officers are trying to protect you and maybe keep you alive.

Comment (8/2006): Also that same area before it switches to 60 is a great speed trap. As for US-95 being a deathtrap. for the most part it is, but this far north it is alot better.

Comment (11/2006): Better than what, Boise? We have our share of speeding related deaths on the highways up here too.

Comment (04/2008): US 95 from the top of Bonners Ferry hill all the way to I-90 is speed trap territory for anyone traveling through with Montana plates. I stay right at the speed limit always, but it isn\'t easy to know what that is. Coming down the hill into Bonners Ferry is highly patrolled. You start down at 60 MPH and after about two miles, on a fairly steep grade, the limit is reduced to 45 and just before leveling out at the town limits, it comes down to 35. You ride your brake pretty much the whole way. Be alert for a sheriff\'s deputy sitting on a road to the right just past the 35 MPH sign going south. And I was pulled over just outside of Sandpoint (MT plates, remember) for accidentally hitting my yellow flashers and not knowing I\'d done it.
