Most times this trap is run by the "Airport Police" with a single patrol unit. Sometimes, they use the little photo trailer w/radar. The posted speed is 35 mph,and if you are alone, or you don't see and wave @ the officer(s) in the car they WILL give you some sort of a ticket, usually they (he) (FALSELY) accuse(s) you of speeding, just to see what else they can find (no insurance card, cluttered car, etc.).
Comment (10/2003): Why can't the Airport Police and BPD leave this area alone? It's right by Gowen Field and under military jurisdiction anyway, let them take care of it.

There are usually a couple of cops that hide out behind signs in parking lots at various spots along chinden. The posted speed is 35, which nobody obeys, and they're usually pretty tight about it. The two I see most often are about 1/2 mile - 1 mile east of the fairgrounds.

In the noon to afternoon hours there is always at least one cop posted along Curtis near Borah High School. The speed limit is 30, very hard to obey, and he will get you for it. There are also a few cops along Aurora, behind the school, in the morning hours.

A motorcycle cop will be sitting in either the Lynwood Place cul-de-sac, the Lubkin St. entrance, (or sometimes at Plymouth St.) along Curtis Road between Fairview and Mountain View with his radar on facing the northbound traffic. You cannot see the cop as he is usually parked in the shadows under a tree or just out of site. It is 35 MPH and a school zone part of the year. This makes it easy pickings for them to nail someone. They are mainly there in the mornings, but I have seen them there at all hours of the day to easily get their quotas.

This street is patrolled by both Boise City and Ada County officers. Ada County is known to issue speeding citations without radar! Based on "pacing," they follow a vehicle and estimate the speed. Posted speed is only 30 mph, a ticket for 40 in a 30 costs the driver $53. Cars and motorcycle patrols are very heavy in this area at all times of year.

Between Eagle and Five Mile on McMillan Road, a motorcycle cop will wait for high school kids speeding to and from school; before, at lunch, and after school. There are two school zones in this two mile stretch of McMillan. Officers usually stay far back from the street (50+ yards) behind a fence, so you CANNOT see them until it is too late.

Coming off of Federal Way (limit 40 mph), it is very easy to get ticketed after turning onto Protest Road. Protest goes downhill and the speed limit is only 30 mph. It is quite easy to unwittingly exceed 30 mph due to your downhill momentum even if accelerating only modestly from a complete stop at the light. A motorcyle cop will often sit behind some trees at the diner on Protest, allowing him to radar up the hill. Watch your speed all the way down the hill! Even if you stop at the light at the bottom of the hill (the whole road is less than 1/4 mile in length), you can and will be ticketed for speeding for less than 50 yards down the hill.
