Just south of the Thorndale/ Elgin Ohare exit is a turn around for Authorizied Vehicles Only that is sometimes occupied by a pair of State Troopers facing opposite directions clocking radar. I've never seen them chase anyoneout of the box, but I've cars pulled over on both sides of this highway.
Comment (12/2002): ISP runs a revolving speed trap in the northbound lanes of I-355 at the junction with I-290. A marked unit sits at the top of a narrow asphalt drive near a radio tower in the middle of the interchange and points out "targets." Several hundred feet further up the way, four to six unmarked units (Crown Vics, Impalas, and Mustangs) wait on the inside shoulder and take off after target vehicles identified by the marked unit. Seen this in action twice, and is brisk business. Lots of drivers ignore the marked unit when they see he's parked so far from the road, but he's got radar and laser and is tagging unsuspecting motorists left and right.
Comment (10/2002): Cops are there every Sunday mornong when i got to golf.
Comment (2/2003): The other trick now is the cops will sit on the LEFT shoulder of northbound 355 and run radar. He is usually opposite the asphalt driveway, just where the road curves, so hard to see until your right there. No cops at the center U-turn, no cop on the asphalt driveway, start to speed up and wham! Missed getting tagged, but what a surprise. Just when you think you know all the tricks....
