State & Sheriff police line squad cars up under the Dundee road overpass. We're talking 2-6 squads lined up in a row picking off drivers. THen regrouping after pulling drivers for their next kill. Rt53 is a smooth 6 lane highway where 75mph can be done safely. Major revenue builder for the local constabulary. Note that tickets generally are pre- printed with 75mph in a 55 with no court date given to contest.

Comment (5/2002): As of 5/2002, this trap still exists. Rt. 53 is a popular stretch for State Police and Cook County Sheriff to patrol. A couple of recent occurrences: Witnessed County Sheriff marked unit parked in grass just north of Dundee Road overpass with officer standing outside of car blatantly clocking motorists traveling southbound. I could not see if he was working with other units, but he most likely had friends nearby. Also, while traveling northbound approaching Palatine Road overpass, road curves to left and it's hard to see anything sitting on the inside shoulder until you're right on top of it. Saw State Police marked unit parked on shoulder with officer leaning out open driver's door pointing radar gun back at oncoming traffic. About 1/4 mile ahead were two marked units and an unmarked dark blue Grand Prix on the opposite shoulder waiting for customers.

Comment (5/2002): State troopers at Dundee and Rt. 53 overpass and 20-30 feet off of highway (Rt. 53) on grassy shoulder between Dundee and Lake-Cook Rd. Morning Rush Evening Rush and Sunday Morning.

At night, just after going north past the palatine east exit, it curves to the left and usually cops sit on the left-hand shoulder waiting for you to pass and then clock you. You cannot see them because of the curve and escpecially at night.

There are multiple locations along south Arlington Heights Road that are enforced on a regular basis. 1) (MODERATE RISK) Arlington Heights Road just south of Algonquin Road (62). On a regular basis, a car will sit between the bank building and the abandoned gas station on the southeast corner of the intersection, monitoring northbound traffic. The speed limit on this particular stretch of road is 45, but this is immediately north of the Northwest Tollway exit and also just past a stretch of road where the safe driving speed is well over 55 MPH. From this vantage point they are able to monitor the Algonquin Road and Arlington Heights Road intersection as well as several expressway entrance/exits and northbound traffic for speeders. 2) (MODERATE RISK) Arlington Heights Road between Algonquin Road (62) and Golf Road (58). This area is not generally enforced, but a car has been seen on occasion in the car wash parking lot on the west side of the road. There are also numerous other locations where they could remain hidden if they chose to. This area is particularly easy to speed in as the speed limit drops from 45 to 35 as northbound traffic crosses Algonquin Road. 3) (HIGH RISK) Arlington Heights Road north of Golf Road (58). There are 4 primary locations where enforcement occurs on an almost daily basis. There will almost always be a car sitting with its lights off on Noyes St. east of Arlington Heights Road. Alternately, they will sit in the parking lot of the Northwest Gastroenterologists building, across Noyes from the State of Illinois plow depot, also on the east side of the street. These are dark locations and it is almost impossible to see them until you are right in front of them. Sometimes, they will sit on the streets on the west side of Arlington Heights Road, at times in ADDITION to a car on Noyes, in other words multiple cars in a several block stretch of road. Once you pass a car, do not assume that you are free and clear. As a side note, they do not seem to pull anyone over for anything under 45 MPH, although the speed limit is 35. At any rate, best to watch it here.

Arlington Heights PD sometimes has a cruiser clocking people off on one of the side streets here. They are well hidden from side view by the wealth of residences on this street. This is also a straight stretch of four lane road which really snags eastbound travelers, who have to slow from 40 to 30 at the Wilke Road intersection. Of course, nobody goes 30 in either direction; the traffic flow tends to push 45.

This speed trap runs on Hintz Rd. from the intersection of Rand Rd. (Rt 12) to Arlington Heights Rd. then continuing on up to Schoenbeck Rd. The first portion of this trap between Rand Rd. and Arlington Heights Rd. is a residential neighborhood with a posted limit of 25 mph. I will frequently see the cops (normal marked car or motorcyle) hiding on the side streets off of Hintz about 15-20 yards back, in particular at the streets with stop signs. They're primarily looking for vehicles that are either speeding or don't come to a complete stop at the stop sign. The second portion of this trap is between Arlington Heights Rd. and Schoenbeck Rd. The posted limit either increases from 25 to 35 mph if you're going east or decreases from 40 to 35 mph if you're going west. I've observed both normal marked cars and motorcyles in this portion as well. In particular, on the north side of Hintz, well hidden, towards the back of a church parking lot. Also, when the motorcycle cop is hiding on the side streets on the south side of Hintz, he tends to pick and choose which vehicles he wants to monitor with his radar.

This trap mostly affects those cars coming east from Arlington Park. Euclid is a four lane road, and it goes from 40 mph down to 30 mph east of Wilke Road. You will often find an Arlington Heights cop car sitting just off Euclid on Yale, Harvard, or Dwyer Streets; you will not be able to see them until it's too late. The prevailing speed in this section of roadway tends to be 40-50 mph; driver beware.

Going down white oak street( its between wilke and arlington heights road) the speed limit is set unrealisticly slow, 25 MPH, when it is wide open and fairly busy. Cops will always sit on side streets off of it, on the whole street too not only in the beginning and end. i know countless people who have gotten a ticket on it.

There is a small electrical building on your left as you drive north on Arlington Heights Road just between a High School and Elementary School. The posted Speed Limit is 25mph on school days when children are present (whatever that means) and 35mph otherwise. The cop will sit in this little one car parking lot for this electrical building and catch people speeding. Also on this same stretch of road I have seen numerous police cars driving on it and suddenly stopping and doing u-turns to chase people over the speed limit. There have been many times where a group of cars has been forced to follow a police car going the same direction as them and the cops do not follow the 25mph speed limit, so how can they enforce it? Just be careful here...

Officers will sit in the parking lot of the Citibank and take radar for cars traveling East on Palatine. The speed drops from 40 to 35 and officers will ticket if you are going 40-45MPH right after the change in speed limit

The cops sit on the north side of Thomas on Ridge behind the hedge and catch speeders going both Eastbound and Westbound. Sometimes, they sit on the south side next to the watertower. On rare occassions, they sit on Lynnwood (one street west of Ridge). Traffic is normally moving between 30 and 35 mph, rather than the posted 25 mph.
