Speed limit in town is 35. The town is so small it is difficult to discern where it begins and ends and the speed signs are rather obscure and confusing. They do not give warnings, several of my friend have received tickets there for very mild infractions of the speed limit.

Comment (11/2002): M husband is 57years old and has never had a ticket in his life until this summer 8/02 when he had slowed down for the town and thought he was out of town and go a ticket as he was climbing to get back up to the 55. Clocked at 51 and received a $75 ticket. He drives too slow rather than too fast.

Comment (7/2002): speed limit signs are very visible. This city is no different than any other. If you speed (and not just a couple miles over limit) you will get stopped. Sometimes only getting a warning

Comment (3/2003): I sometimes go through Ashley, and the police force is littered with rookie cops that do nothing but pull people over. They will patrol anywhere in town, not just Route 15/51 through the main drag. The likelyhood of encountering one of them (usually driving a unmarked squad car) is the highest when it is closing time at the bars around 1-2 AM, or when its a holiday weekend or when the DuQuoin State Fair is going on.

Comment (9/2003): The speed limit in Illinois is absolute, which means speeding driver can be written for 1 mph over.

Regular ole' speed trap..though it is getting slightly better...Instead of high enforcement like it was a few years ago, now it is just moderate enforcement
