Bargersville's town policeman waits for speeders in the bank parking lot or side street. Going one mile per hour over the limit can get you a ticket.
Comment (10/2003): I don't think your going to get a ticket in the state of Indiana for going 1 mph over the speed limit. Most departments have standing operating procedure requiring you to be in excess of 7 mph over ( 2 point infraction
Comment (4/2004): Bargersville and Whiteland cops do in fact pull people over for going a few mph over the posted limits. Both those towns have 30mph limits on nearly all city streets. These town cops write you up for more than you were going. This is because Whiteland and especially Bargersville are very small towns. This is another case of generating revenue for the town by setting extremely low speed limits and using them to exploit commuters. I prefer to set my cruise control at exactly the speed limit when going through Bargersville on 144 because of this.
Comment (6/2004): Bargersville cops will sit on the north side of town on 135 too. They'll nab you on the 55 to 40 speed change. Sometimes Johnson County boys will sit south of town on 135 as well.
Comment (5/2004): Bargersville also like to sit 1 mi. east of town in Pheasant Point subdivision and get you for 58 in a 55. They sit as far east as Hopewell school 2 miles from the town limit.
Comment (9/2004): Sorry, but there's no such thing as a department having an SOP that says that they have to catch you going 7mph over the speed limit. Departments leave it up to officer descretion when to stop a car and can't tell the officers that they HAVE to stop a car for a certain speed.
Comment (4/2005): Yes there are SOP's on speeding violations and much much more. In an unrelated fact, IPD is directed not to arrest anyone during the 500 race and the 500 parade unless it is a felony...Imagine that!
Comment (5/2005): I would like to know where in the I.P.D. S.o.P. book it tells the officer not to arrest people unless it is a felony during the month of May during the race and parade, as I am an I.P.D. officer and have been so for 14 years and have worked the race and parade every year during that time and have never seen any such thing nor has any supervisor told me or implied any such thing. So please tell me where to find this so I dont have to do my job during these events. Thanks in advance.
