When I was the Chief of Police in Cherokee I liked to sit at the ball park on K7 and I would pull people over all day long for travelling from 10 to 40 mph over the speed limit. Now there is new law in town and I expect he will do the same when the highway opens back up. Now all of you speed trappers out there will know that when travelling through Cherokee the speed limit on K7 drops from 55 to 40. It has two posted reduce speed now signs just in case you dont quite get it yet.
Comment (5/2006): I was chief of police in cherokee Ks. from 1987 to 1999 speeding tickets were written on k7 hwy heavily in april and may, when little leauge started the ball park is approx. 150 feet off the hwy. the speed limit was 35 m.p.h. tickets were written at 50 m.p.h. and above. i ,sat in plain sight at all times.i hardly think this qualifies as a speed trap. Many times as i sat there i saw children run out in the highway after a ball It was usually smaller kids playing on the sidelines. I enjoyed writing tickets about as much as i liked getting one but i believe some kids are alive today because i was willing to write them.I stopped and warned 4-5 for every one i wrote.
