The local over-paid and under-worked police department sits at Kansas State Bank or at Kwik Shop. If they are parked at Kwik shop they can nail people on US 56 or County Road 1055. They regularly nail a dozen a night. Being nice to these guys won't help, just hold your tongue and take it.

Comment (1/2003): A while back on July 10th (the day before my birthday) I was pulled over on us56 in overbrook, a few miles west of Baldwin. My girlfriend was in the passenger's seat and a friend was in the backseat. My friend and I were on our way to a Legion baseball game. The highway patrol officer said I was going 47 in a 35, and left of center (but I wasn't, he was 150 yds away from me with no perspective). However, I didn't have my license on me, my proof of insurance was out of date, and my registration was out of date. He went back to his car and I thought I was screwed. When he returned he said it was my lucky day. He let me go with a verbal warning and said "Happy birthday and good luck at your game." OCCASIONALLY, you run into a cool cop.

Police hide in any number of places along the highway and shoot radar. Very gung ho and tickets are very high. Definetely just a revenue collection scam. Speed limit reduces from 55 to 20 during peak travel times and cops hide to shoot radar.
