Between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. there is a Calvert City police officer who works every inch of his 7/10 of a mile of Interstate 24 within the city limits. He will sit on the shoulder of the west bound lane and issues citations starting at 5 miles per hour over the posted speed limit of 65. Also, make sure you have a current proof of insurance card in your car or your vehicle will be towed and you may very well get to spend the night at the Marshall County Jail.

Comment (3/2005): Calvert city is simply preying on unaware motorists who are coming out of a 70 mph speed limit in Tennessee into Kentucky. I was recently ticketed at this speed trap and because I was in a minivan with out of state plates was picked out of several vehicles all going nearly the same speed. Also the ticket prices are extremely high. The Calvert City police give a whole new meaning to the phrase 'highway robbery" The Calvert City officials should be ashamed. As for myself I never plan to travel through this unfair city again. Hope the $161.00 was worth the lost future revenue. I have a big address book and will be telling all i know about this greedy little town in Kentucky.............

Comment (5/2005): I have seen these traps first hand as I travel from Alabama to Illinois on I24. They will get you slow down especially late at night. This has to be a revenue builder for this town.

Comment (12/2005): This officer obviously has nothing to do better than prey on unsuspecting public. I've seen him sit there and allow the city he is supposedly sworn to protect and serve to be unprotected from burglars, thieves, suspicious persons and vehicles while he nabs speeders for freaking 5 miles per hour over or better, which is a bunch of crap. Hopefully the city government will stop this travesty and waste of taxpayer dollars on someone to exercise a loophole in city boundaries to his advantage. Besides, this guy has ruined himself in court with all the BS charges he fires out. I hear that a good 75 percent of his tickets get thrown out anyways. BE CAREFUL IN CALVERT KINGDOM!

Comment (4/2006): not 1 penny of that fine goes to calvert city pd it is a state mandated fine. also any officer can write a speeding ticket on an interstate highway running thru their city limits.slow down or pay the fine.

Comment (3/2006): A local/city police officer can not legally write a speeding ticket on the interstate. Even a county cop can't. Only the DOT or state police can issue a ticket. Call your lawyer. My best friend is a police officer for the KSP.

Comment (3/2006): If the interstate is in the incorporated limits of a city yes city and county officers can cite for speed or any other offense.

Comment (9/2006): A city officer can write a citation on any public road in the corporation. County can write citation on any public road in county!

Comment (12/2006): First off I know first hand that the city police do not write tickets for just five miles per hour over in Calvert City, they generally start writting at around fifteen miles over. Second, since everyone knows the law so well allow me to put my two cents in...If a person is traveling within the city limits and is in fact breaking the law the police are within their legal obligation to issue a citation. Furthermore the Calvert City Police does have county wide jurisdiction due to the size of the city so, it would not matter if you were at the 28mm or the 20mm the citation would be valid. Third, if you were to have an accident at the 28mm you would be happy that Calvert City officer arrived since it would only take him 2-5 minutes to get to you to help you if you were injured verses the 15-20 minutes it may take a county, state trooper, or KVE to get to you. If the collision was not your fault but someone who was speeding, then you would be glad that Calvert officer wrote the citation to that person. Just face it, if you break the law don't blame the officer for doing his job when it was your actions that caused the officer to do his actions.
