Broad, new 4 lane divided highway through the center of the "community". Speed limit steps down from 65 to 45 MPH for about one mile. (strictly enforced). Well known to the locals as a money maker for the town's treasury.
Comment (8/2002): Currently the Baskin village government is all but closed due to the police chief not issuing traffic tickets and rescheduling the other officers' work schedules to conflict with their other jobs.
Comment (1/2003): Baskin has been working this trap since the mid 1950's that I know of.
Comment (4/2003): The original 8/2001 comment appears to be true in all respects based on the $150 ticket I got 4/5/2003. Be careful!
Comment (4/2003): New law enforcement in town as of Jan.1,2003. They really need to make up for lost time since the previous chief didn't write tickets. So be extra careful they will stop you for anything .
Comment (6/2003): Louisiana Hwy 15 running south of I-20 to Sicily Island is dotted with little blood-sucking towns. Baskin is the first and worst. The same thing happens in Archibald, Gilbert, Winnsboro, Wisner, and Sicily Island. The 4-land speed limit is now 65, but in most towns a 45mph sign will appear without warning. Beware, they all want your money and show no mercy. My money to Baskin contributed to their Museum of Modern Art and Science.

As I was comeing off a highway into a turn, the speed was 55 then it turned into a 45 mph speed limit which the sign was not visiable untill the lights of a police car is at your backside. The officer was very nice but why do they have to lie and tell stories about how fast you are going? She said I was doing 61 in a 45. AWWW how can a person fight this?
