This is one of the best I have yet to see. Four lanes of traffic and a middle turning lane all connected. Coming down the hill while traveling North bound on 171 the speed limit is 45 MPH. As you top the hill right in the middle of the 4 lanes, SITTING IN THE TURNING LANE, Anacoco's finest! How can this be? Traveling downhill at a 135 degree angle in a 2,000 lb. vehicle at 45 MPH /vs/ police car with a radar IN THE TURNING LANE ='s TICKET

Comment (3/2006): Agree, but take it to the Mayor's court. They never know what to do with a ticket that you wish to appeal! Chief loves to harrass military going to Toledo Bend!

Comment (7/2006): This area of town is marked with bright, flashing, yellow lights that indicate the safe speed in this area is 35mph. There is a convienent store right at the top of the hill and a side road that intersects with the highway. People coming out of the store or coming off the side road can't see over the hill to see if any thing is coming. It is a dangerous intersection. The police are just trying to slow people down so there won't be any accidents. Better for you to pay a fine than to scrape you or someone else up off the highway.

Comment (7/2006): The road going to Toledo Bend is in a residential area. There are children playing in the yards and children on bicycles. The area is well posted with speed limit signs. Anyone coming through that area has passes through at least 7 speed limit signs that state the speed limit is 45. The chief is just looking out for his people.

Comment (7/2006): That's what the auto manufacturers make brakes for. A 13.5 degree angle won't make you speed up that fast. I have seen this hill, have driven over it many times and the cop actually gets you before you start your descent. He actually catches you on radar while you are passing the Conoco station and convienence store. Sorry, that dog won't hunt!

Hurricane Rita was within 8 hours of making land fall on the Louisiana Gulf Coast. My family and I decided that our treck North was best for us, as did MANY others. In our travel north up U.S. HWY 171 in route to safety, we were pretty much in traffic that was one car after another headed to safety.Sitting in the Anacoco town hall parking lot was Anacoco's own. How you can get a ticket for 51 in a 45 with traffic this intense is unknown to me, but apparently we pulled it off.Out of all the vehicles traveling around us, WE got a ticket!Speed trap if I ever saw one!Once we got to Hot Springs, Arkansas I just happened to speak to another fellow displaced resident of Sulphur, Louisiana and guess what....he was pulled over too!Imagine that, taking advantage of folks fleeing a fast approaching hurricane at mass numbers.None of the less I paid the ticket and prayed the trap would not be existent on our way home.We were lucky on our exit but not so lucky once at home. BEWARE of this trap, the Mayor was riding with the

I go through Anacoco about 3 times a week and I always see the local police. I try not to go faster than the posted 45mph limit but on Monday, Apr 28, 2003, he stopped me for going 61 in a 45. Even though I got a ticket, the officer was the nicest man I have met in a long time. He was very friendly and courteous and even told me to come back and come to church with him sometime. I was shocked! Never have I ever encountered such a nice man. With all the negative things about cops, I just wanted to tell everyone about this cop in Anacoco.
