The Bernardston cop hangs out on the east-bound or west-bound side and picks people off regularly. That stretch of Rte. 10 is straight and wide and only lightly settled, and a lot of people use it to get to I-91 from NH and VT through Northfield (see someone else's Northfield speed trap posting also). The speed limit is 55 but the good traffic and road conditions tempt you to do more. The cop's a nice guy and has let me go twice, so now I'm careful -- but put on the cruise control and keep it under 55!
Comment (4/2004): Hello, I'm a cop in Bernardston and Northfield I wanted to thank you for posting this information, now I can adjust my hiding spots. By the way I bet noone reads this, cause I still get em in that spot. I'll be sure to send this link to all the cops I know, Drive safe
Comment (9/2004): I was stopped in this stretch after passing someone who was doing less than 50. The trooper who stopped me-- was going to give me a ticket for doing over 50. I pointed out that the speed limit was 55 and he went back to his car for a long time and returned with a scolding to 'keep it down'. I never did over 55! He thought the speed limit was 50! LOL
Comment (3/2005): I would have given you a ticket anyway, LOL
