Every time I've been on I-895 both north and south, I've seen at least 2 speed traps. There is usally one located at both sides of the tunnel. Enforcement will wait in the grassy median of the highway, and at night with no lights on. OBEY the speed limit or it's very likely you will get caught!

Comment (1/2005): Watch for traps on the southbound side of the tunnel. The speed limit is 50 mph and you will get pulled over if you're speeding.

Comment (11/2003): The more stringent enforcement - and a real 'trap' is southbound, as one exits from 95 South, onto 895 South. I posted this. Even at 5AM, I have observed traps pulling dozens of vehicles over. I95 has a 65 MPH speed limit, and traffic typically moves at 75-80+. The 895 exit (south) is a LEFT HAND exit. Were anyone foolish enough to attempt to drive at 65 MPH in the left lane on 95 (when it's not bumper to bumper), you'd be run off the road. The 895 exit is also DOWNHILL, with the first speedtrap at the first overpass at the bottom of the hill. All 895heavily patrolled!

Comment (1/2004): I can't imagine how much revenue is generated off of I-895. The one spot that angers me the most is North-bound I-895 just Sout of the I-95 merge, there is one speed sign that says 50mph! Less than 50 yds before is says 55mph and another 150 yds later there is another 55mph sign. Police will sit in this 50mph zone and get you coming over the hill in the 55mph spot & ticket you for a 50mph zone. I can't imagine the engineering justification behind that sudden drop in speed.

Comment (6/2004): It is true that police sit all over 895. I travel this road on a regular basis. I see them as soon as you get on 895 going south right in the median. They sit in various spots all the way up to the tunnel as well as right after the toll both on the right and in the median from after 695 & 895 all the way to 95.Mostly, they have blue cars with gold stripes and letters but they also have Camaro's and Mustangs.

Comment (7/2004): For one, the cars are black that sit on 895. For two, the speed limit is 50 from the time you split off of 95 until the other side of the tunnel past 295. not that hard to obey, just dont be stupid.

Comment (7/2004): If you're headed southbound, you just have to watch your speed from the I-95 split to just after the Moravia Road-US 40 interchange. Interstate 895 becomes too narrow until just prior to the tunnel entrance for the MdTA police to do their stationary speed radar monitoring. After going through the tunnel southbound, be very alert to the presence of stationary MdTA police cars in the median strip crossovers.

Comment (7/2004): I feel it may be better to use the regular I95 via Baltimore as most of the time traffice moves at 60-65, while here its limited to 50 and there is not much traffice to be in a pack.

Comment (11/2004): Enforcement is like clockwork along 895 near 95. I've never not seen cops.

Comment (2/2005): 895 is a relatively new highway where a speed limit of 65mph would be reasonable, and yet the maximum limit is 55, why? The simple answer is that the average vehicle operator coming off 95 south or north is so valocitized at that speed, that 55 seems like a crawl. Before you can adjust, you hit radar. The are waiting for you!

Comment (3/2005): Not true anymore, I've only seen one on 895 south between 295 and route 1

Comment (7/2005): Basically these area cops are in need for cash and which means keeping spped limit of 50 on stetch and having general spped of 55-65 on rest of the stretch will confuse the road users and they will make money for their pay raise.
