2 pedestrians were killed, jay-walking. Cops gave them warnings but ignore advice. So now, cops are coming down hard on motorists. Started enforcement a few days ago. Don't speed from Tuckerman Lane to Democracy Blvd.

U.S. Park Police officers often run radar in this area, especially heading into Maryland from DC at the end of the stretch where there are two lanes in each direction instead of just one. They wait for people who are desperate to pass in the two lanes in each direction section, and they nail them trying to speed past one more car before the road narrows to one lane again. The cops here love this spot during late weekend nights!

Just after Democracy Blvd. while traveling south on Rt. I-270 the road starts to curves to the left. It narrows into three lanes including one HOV lane. State police set up a trap just as the road curves to the left, they hide on the other side and as cars approach the curve they shoot the radar up the road looking for speeding cars. Speed limit is 55, they will usually let you fly buy at 65.

The bike cops will be on the side of the road usually on the grass. They will hide behind trees and check your speed. If a person is speeding, the other bike cop will flash his lights and you must pull over.

Cops like to sit in the parking lot right across from the Sycamore Store, near the canal entrance. Will catch people coming up and down MacArthur and you can barely see them, speed limit is 30mph, better stick to it.

Radar/Laser is set-up at all times during the day between the area of East-Highway and the downtown circle both north and south bound. The posted speed limit is 30 miles per hour but it is unrealistic for a 3 lane road in the middle of a highly populated area. However, that is what is so beware!

A cop on a motorcycle will sit right in front of the library across the street from WJ high school and it will be hard to see him. It is a 35 zone but nobody goes that slow so be careful.

Crossing over the beltway on bradley, there is a bridge that opens up to 2 lanes each way. at either end of the bridge can be a cop pointing the radar or laser at you, be careful because you naturally go faster once the road opens up

PD sits late nights watching southbound traffic decending slight hill from light at Bradley & Wisconsin. Trap is just before traffic light at Dorset. Posted speed is 35mph, but the 10 block straight-a-way invites lead feet. PD use tripod-mounted laser and have several chase cars ready for those who would try to make the D.C. line, ca. 3/4 mile away.

sometimes giant PD trap on northbound Rockville Pike (Wisconsin Ave)at foot of hill, just before Cedar Lane. PD chase cars sit in driveway of Navy Med or Stone Ridge girl's school while laser car sits in median, shooting traffic decending steep hill coming out of Bethesda. Traffic rarely moves at just the 35mph posted speed. Nailed cars are ushered out of view, either onto Cedar or up other side of hill on the Pike - either way, they're out of view.

Westbound, going up the long hill by the Naval Medical Ctr, is a daytime speed trap. MC sometimes has a motorcycle cop park in the first Medical Center turnoff, where the use radar (and possibly lidar) to cite westbound traffic. You can't see them until you're on top of them. They setup in late AM, and run for a few hours.

Outbound Rt. 355 (Rockville Pike) after you pass Navy Med, cross Cedar Lane at the bottom of the hill, & blast up the far side (thinking you've escaped the regular speed trap in front of Navy Med) you race up the hill, crest it...and there is county PD sitting on Elsmere Avenue, shooting LIDAR as you pick up speed going downhill again, well over the 35mph limit. There's nowhere to hide or turn - you're right on top of him, and vice versa. Pray the car beside you is moving faster.

Normally on weekend nights around midnight, 2-4 Police and Sheriff units sit on Eastside of road at Battery Lane or in Rescue Squad parking lot and go after traffic going both directions, but tend to focus on Northbound. Officers seem to look for drunk drivers, often letting others go quickly with verbal warnings.
