Several Brunswick Police units will usually set up a huge speed trap at this junction. There will be no less then 6 Brunswick patrol cars at any given time. It appears that they are using RADAR and LIDAR.
Comment (3/2006): I agree, I worked in Brunswick and Speed traps here were common
Comment (1/2006): Ummm... this person has no clue. The only way for there to be 6 Brunswick units is if the Chief decides to run Radar. The only time I ever seen any Brunswick Police attempt to pull someone over is if he is driving a Black Honda Civic. (110 MPH Plus...)
Comment (1/2006): I have to commute through Brunswick on a regular basis and have personally witnessed this speed trap. They sit in the median just past the Route 17 overpass on the Maryland side. I counted 3 marked Brunswick Crown Victoria's, 2 unmarked Chevy Impala's, 1 Frederick County Sheriff's Crown Vic, and for some reason there was a marked U.S. Capitol cruiser present. I don't know what U.S. Capitol Police would be doing on a speed trap in Brunswick ???? Last time I checked, the U.S. Capitol Police were just federal government security guards.
Comment (1/2006): I had heard the US Capital police used to be those Spurberry cops, but they were shut down by the local state police, and then absorbed by the Department of Homeland Security. So they just told them to guard the capital. Kinda silly, after all, who is gonna steal the capital?
Comment (1/2006): I saw the same US Capital Police car trying to run radar in PG county in the city of Mt Rainier, but he was told to leave by local police. Silly security cop radar is for the real police.
Comment (1/2006): All of these people talking about the US Capitol Police... First of all, learn the proper spelling of the department you're trying to make fun of. Secondly, if we are running radar, it must mean that the little departments don't know what they're doing. Lastly, most of the officers oon these departments probably couldn't get on a federal agency. Keep hope alive, don't drink and drive.
Comment (1/2006): The Capitol Cruiser was probably flagged down for a jump, because your cruisers are so out dated. Come on guys, stop using 1980s chevy impalas. By the way, are you guys still supplementing your minimal wage hourly rate by moon lighting at the local mall as a security guards? The Capitol Police has the responsibility for protecting the first body of US Gov. Not forget, our dept is the envy of every other dept. Our pay still exceeds all area localities. Our equipment is far more modern than any other agency. We travel the world with the most powerful members of the US Gov. Plus, we don't rely other agencies for support. Most importantly, we don't end of working at the local mall after retirement to supplement a poor pension plan. So, keep on running your radar. You are making a big difference. Next time you break down, call AAA. But, first make sure your town manager paid the annual service fee. You know what happens when they cut the budget.
Comment (1/2006): I too have traveled through this speed trap and have been cited for speeding by local police. However, I have recently read in the Brunswick Gazette that an unnamed group from D.C., is currently in negotiations with local government to purchase the Town of Brunswick. The groups spokesperson stated,” we will no longer stand for the unjust acts of speed regulation that are being perpetrated by local law enforcement”. The spokesperson has also said that all local officers will keep there jobs with the city, all though they may be reassigned to open vacancies such as parking enforcement or hospital security. The Group had also expressed interest in purchasing the city of Mt. Rainer, however due to a dramatic increase in STD's have decided against it.
Comment (1/2006): UPDATE: Capitol Police get idea from local hospital security force. They will now be driving minivans with handicap tags and wheelchair lifts so they can better assist those they protect with escorts to their vehicles and to the outward parking areas. Director of Safety and Security at a local hospital was quoted as saying he was more than happy to provide assistance to the US Capitol Police as they are constantly looking for new sources of funding by creating a need to make their officers more useful. It's good to see the Capitol Police getting more satisfaction from their jobs rather than just being accussed of being overpaid federal security professionals.
Comment (2/2006): The traffic enforcement in this specific spot only occers every so often. PS: It's sad that a few immature law enforcement officers have to argue and fight (in words) like children. What you have shown the public is that you yourselfs are no better then the dead beats that you confront on a daily basis. This also reflects the type of person(s) you all are.
Comment (7/2006): First of all, Brunswick PD does not run radar on US RT 340 and US RT 17! The MD State police and the Frederick Co Sheriffs office does this. Brunswick officers don't have juristiction on RT 340 and only have it on RT 17 right past the intersection of Rt 17 and RT 79 at the church. Also, Brunswick PD only has a maximum of three (3) officers on duty at any given time and that is pushing it. Get your facts together people before you start posting things that are incorrect!
Comment (9/2006): Hey I heard that the Frederick County Sheriff's Office was planning on deploying a speed reduction unit in the Town of Bruswick, however the unit had to disband because all of the funds had to be used to purchase Lo-Jack and the CLUB for the FCSD cruisers....you know, just in case a prisoner decides to.... ummm borrow the car.
Comment (10/2006): I disagree, I personally saw 8 marked Brunswick Police Ford Crown Victoria's on Route 340 @ Route 17 this evening around 10pm. There were also 3 Frederick County Sheriff's patrol cars and 2 Maryland State cruisers. This area had been a favorite fishing hole for years and now they are hitting it hard. I have also seen the Brunswick Police hitting all of their town borders pretty hard as well...don't speed anywhere around Brunswick!
Comment (10/2006): Sorry but you could not have seen 8 marked Brunswick Police cars because Brunswick does not have that many marked cruisers. Brunswick does not even have eight officers, they only have six and if you call Brunswick PD at 301-834-9101 they will tell you that they do not run radar on 340 and they do not have that many officers ever on duty at the same time. Please get you facts together!
Comment (10/2006): I heard that Brunswick PD and the Frederick County Sheriffs office were creating a small task force for traffic enforcement and for arson. Be careful around there so your car doesn't get burned.
