As you come South down the coastal highway from Rohobeth, you are going 55 mph and very suddenly the speed limit drops down to 35 mph as the highway makes a right turn to bypass the local streets. The highway here is very wide and resembles an interstate highway, but for some reason, they feel that the speed limit needs to suddenly drop by 20 mph in a span of 100 feet. They have gotten better at posting the reduced speed limit signs, but when I was nailed in 1992, they didn't have those signs. The cop sits in the median, right around the bend with one of those instant radar guns and gets you as you are slowing down from 55. I now know the trap and haven't been nailed since, but I do still see him there whenever I drive by on the way to Northern Ocean City, MD.
Comment (5/2003): Very true. However, Bethany Beach is in Delaware.
Comment (6/2004): I live here. The speed limit drops coming into town because of high pedestrian and bicycle traffic. When people go to the beach they leave their brains at home. They dont look before they cross this 4 lane highway, they just walk out into the street because they spend $1500 or more for a week and they think they own the place.

Comment (12/2003): Bethany Beach is not in Maryland. It's in Delaware. I hope you didn't show up for court. Also, the location he is refering to sounds like Fenwick Island in Southern Delaware. Lastly...how many pedestrians are killed in this area each year??? Another example of "heavy foot, light mind".
