A marked vehicle sits in the turn-around lane carved into the traffic island in the middle of Coolidge, facing North about 1/4 mile North of the light at 12 Mile. Because of trees and signage in the traffic island it is difficult to realize the cruiser is there before the radar has already locked on.

When the Berkley PD is not issuing parking tickets between the hours of 2am-6am...they are hard at work annoying those of us that are convinced 30 or 35 mph are unacceptable speed limits. In this particular situation, Johnny Law simply sits back in a large parking lot and waits for the unsuspecting motorist to exceed the 35mph limit. Basically this stretch of road is the city's cash register and it operates on a 24 X 7 basis. Bottom line is that if you plan to drive through Berkley, plan on driving the posted speed limit. Aside from rescuing the occasional cat from the tree, these jokers have nothing better to do on any given day then to increase your insurance rates!! Happy travels!!

At 12 Mile and Woodward (Westbound) there is a cemetary on the right and a large parking lot to the left. Between Coolidge and Woodward the speed limit is increased to 35. Before Woodward on 12 mile (westbound) the speedlimit is 25. People tend to over accelerate with this sudden jump.

Berkley police will park in the high school parking lot, on the north side of Catalpa just east of Coolidge. Many park here to fill out paperwork, etc, but have their radar on incase of a speeder. They strictly enforce the 25 MPH speed limit, as it is both a school zone and residential neighborhood. Keep it at 25!

Both North and Southbound Coolidge, between 12 Mile and Webster. Laser enforcement, hiding in private drives or on sidestreets. Speed limit is 30mph, but this road is a 4-lane, boulevard street. Very easy to speed. Fortunately, you are given a gratious cushion of 15 or more over before you are stopped.

The officer sits in his car in the park's small parking lot. Webster is a very bad road, but it's easy to speed. Slow down before you go by the park midday, he isn't there if you are passing around 7:00-8:00 in the morning on the way to work though.

West 12 Mile Road, from Kenmore to Buckingham. Numerous police spotted sitting on street corners, usually southside of 12 Mile. Since there are a large number of businesses along the route, they are sometimes parked on the side street. Notice them most during the day, especially around school hours. Use extra caution when taking a corner.
