Hwy 212 is 50 mph, save for a short 30 mph zone on either size of Hwy 41. The police like to sit inside each of these zone changes, and both directions offer them good sightline cover. Eastbound, they will sit on the right hand side of the road, two blocks west of 41, right after the bend in the road that crosses the bridge. Westbound, they're also on the right hand side, usually sitting in or near the KFC or Hardee's parking lots (just after the car dealer and Chaska Home store). They'll tag you immediately after the speed zone change. Of all my neighbors, no one has gotten off without a ticket as yet.

Comment (6/2003): Consider ALL of Chaska a SPEED TRAP! They watch the whole City and generate plenty of revenue. The Highway 41 Hill is a Big favorite for speeders and the Police, others thinking especially the 40 & 45 mph roads are watched closely. Youths are rally targeted and will be ticketed for No Seat Belt with a Speed Warning, hey the Police are giving them a break and being nice.

Comment (7/2003): Actually, westbound Hwy. 212 slows from 50 to 45 than to 30 prior to the Hwy. 41 intersection. Eastbound Hwy. 212 slows from 50 to 30 prior to the Hwy. 41 intersection...but...you are warned about the speed reduction via two "reduce speed ahead" signs and two 30MPH signs. One other interesting note: As I write this the Chaska Police Department does not have any "unmarked"/"undercover" squad cars conducting traffic enforcement. All squad cars used for traffic enforcement are fully marked, have a light bar and are black and white. These days it is getting more uncommon to see a fully marked squad car doing traffic enforcement...consider that your "visual" warning!

Comment (10/2003): The cops seem to be everywhere in Chaska! Must have a big budget! The speed limits are fair, but with all the cops around, it seems that everyone is afraid to get close to the speed limit let alone go over it!

Comment (2/2004): Chaska officers would give a ticket to their own mothers if they had the chance. It doesn't matter if your 1 mile or 10 mph over the limit your toast!

Comment (08/2008): To that cop or City official whom made the comment above, ever heard of \"Letter of the Law\" and \"Spirit of the Law\"? Police are supposed to have a balance between the 2. Chaska cops can be proud of all the revenue they generate to justify their jobs, but should be downright ashamed in the way which they go about it. The Chaska cops are not \'Serving\' the public or justice; they are self-serving and probably brag about it. They\'re an embarassment to law enforcement. I\'d bet the percentage of City revenue generated by their \'speed traps\' is far and away above the acceptable 10-20%. Certainly the leaders in the movement toward a \'Police State\'.

Actually the city of Chaska is a giant speed trap. I believe CPD Officers would give their own mothers a ticket if they could. Chaska relies heavily on their officers running traffic stops. So be very carefull when driving through their city!
