Typical run of the mill speed trap. They are coming out of the bushes in this municipality with their narrow minded officers. No warnings at all.

Comment (11/2002): Bella Villa was one of the municipalities featured in a November '02 report about speed traps on local KSDK television. State records indicate that Bella Villa gets 38% of its revenue through traffic fines, and I'm curious about whether their bookeeping is not somewhat "creative".

Comment (8/2002): Once received a ticket in Bella Villa for going 2 mph above the speed limit!

Comment (2/2003): Be advised that you will be ticketed (not warned) for coasting through the yellow light at Avenue H. The typical practice of confiscating your drivers liscence to encourage speedy payment is used.

Comment (2/2003): Beware...no warnings is right. I have a clean driving record. I was just coasting, below the posted 35mph speed limit. I saw the yellow light at Ave H but did not have time to brake. It turned red literally when I was right underneath it. The officer was small minded in my opinion and would not cut any slack. He confiscated my drivers liscense and handed me a self addressed envelope to encourage speedy payment of the fine. Bayless at Avenue H is just a revenue generating machine...right down the street from the court room / police HQ. The attorney general should look into this.

If you get off of I-55 and onto Bayless you enter the city of Bella Villa. I usually see officers sitting in the McDonald's parking lot on the north side of Bayless. The speed limit is 35 and they target people that just got off the highway and are used to driving a little faster. Its a town of 687 people and the cops don't do anything but sit around and wait for speeders.

Bella Villa is a very small area. It is between I-55 and Lemay Ferry Road. The police will usually sit in this old gas station along Bayless, and sit around the McDonald's parking lot waiting for people as they are comming off of the highway. These cops are very strict and will pull you over for only going a couple of miles over the posted speed limit. Be careful around here.
