If you're traveling through this north St. Louis County suburb, BEWARE!! The speed limit on Elizabeth Ave. in Calverton Park is only 25 MPH, even though many other north-county streets under similar conditions have speed limits of 30 or 35, which would be more appropriate here, IMHO. But does the CPPD give a rip about how unreasonably slow the 25 MPH speed limit is? Not on your life! They WILL pull you over for even ONE mile per hour over the speed limit. They are merciless, exploitive, and the ONLY thing they care about is cleaning out your wallet. You've been warned...
Comment (11/2002): Also make sure you make a "FULL" STOP AT ANY STOP SIGN
Comment (1/2003): "Stop" means stop. Not, "Kinda Stop". And as for stopping you for one or two miles over. Sure they do. I can smell the Bull from here. And I'm sure you told the officer that you were, " just going with the flow of traffic" or you were going "down the hill" or "you are just picking on me because I drive a (insert you car's color-probably red) car. Hmm, maybe follow the traffic laws would be in order, or don't complain when you get caught breaking them.
Comment (6/2003): For the record, I learned about this speedtrap from my then-girlfriend. I have never personally been pulled over by the Calverton Park police, but anyone who's lived in north county for any length of time knows just how exploitive the CPPD is. If I know in advance that a particular place IS a speed trap, I make it a point to obey their speed limits TO THE LETTER when driving through those areas.Another thing you mentioned, about my car color: My car isn't red, it's silver metallic, not to mention I drive a minivan. Therefore, I'm used to people passing me like I'm standing still, even when I'm like 5 over the limit, which I can say I've never had a cop pull me over and give me any grief over. There's little need to worry about the MSHP, as they're reasonable and generally tend to only go after the real high-rollers. Calverton Park Police, on the other hand -- well, with them, if they pull you over, you're screwed and don't even get to enjoy it. LOL
Comment (10/2003): This "suburb" of St. Louis makes over 40% of their revenue off speeding tickets. And another thing, when traveling southbound on florissant road, do 35, not 36, you WILL get a ticket, and have to pay big. Better to find alternate routes around this town, it scares me to drive there.

The 1/2 mile strip of Florissant Rd between Florissant and Ferguson, beginning at McCluer High School and ending at the Phillip's 66 gas station, is one to watch for. They say 35mph and they mean 35mph. Often times the officers will have 2 cars pulled over at the same time, one at each end of the strip, and I have seen as many as 3 at once. The township has about 6-7 unmarked and marked cars total, in white, dark blue, and black. They have even been seen taking radar in the parking lot of the Phillip's 66 parking lot (technically outside of the township), or following drivers into the township from either Florissant or Ferguson, and then pulling them over.
