Located on us 66 west of bourbon ,Mo. constuction on interstate 44 foreces traffic to exit due to high congestion the posted speed drops to 30 mph no warning high enforcment area !
Comment (7/2005): The speed limit actually drops from 55 to 40, then 30 more than a mile down the road. This road is highly residential with several children, schools, senior residential apartments, and pets. I certainly understand why the speed limit is enforced. The Police department has made several temporary speed limit signs which are posted along with the state signs. You have plenty of warning. If you don't want to be stopped for speeding, don't speed! You'll feel much better that you DIDN'T kill someone's child!
Comment (8/2005): Unfortunately enforcement of this trap is near the edge of the speed change while traffic would be in transition. The police officer actually said that "to be fair we have to give a ticket to everyone we stop." School is not in session on Sundays. There's just no way to deny that the Bourbon police are taking advantage of drivers not familiar with the road due to the detour.
Comment (8/2005): Bourbon Police are always on I-44 enforcing the speed limit on the interstate (within their city limits) This is a "fact", we travel this area weekly. Whether or not you call it a 'trap' depends on whether or not you are speeding !
Comment (1/2006): The Bourbon police have been milking the interstate for revenue since BEFORE any construction has been going on, and still after it's done. If traffic has ever been routed off the highway, and THRU the town itself, THEN I can see hardcore enforcement. Otherwise, it's all about the money. Frankly, I'd like to see laws passed that, if your town isn't big enough that you can enter AND exit the interstate WITHIN the boundaries of the town itself, you can't "patrol" it. Then it's the County Sheriff and State Patrol's job.
Comment (11/2006): It is about the money - City Police patrol the I-44 Interstate - Probably to slow down speeding in their town. By staying on the Interstate, it keeps town people from being angry and they still are able to raise money to run the Police Department. It is a good thing they are selective, because no one observes the speed limit in that area, therefore, they would need a bigger Municipal Court building to hold everyone that drives down the highway.
