Comment (11/2002): hmm? so I guess you condone speeding? or should they not enforce traffic laws? I agree the need for revenue is stressed for these little cities. it's not the officer's per say, but they are forced to produce.
Comment (11/2002): Bel-Ridge has not had any traffic fatalities due to criminal offenses because of traffic violations in the last 12 years. So I personally feel that the Officers of Bel-Ridge are doing a fine job Serving and Protecting. I would much rather get a ticket and a fine because of excellant TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT instead of the officers ignoring traffic violaters and me, my family or friends getting killed in a traffic accident. Instead of doing an investigation on what cities or speed traps, writting alot of tickets , and how cities accumalte their revenue. You need to investigate what cities have a high percentage of traffic fatalities and complain that the police departments need to INCREASE there traffic enforcement. Its a shame when people are more concerned over a city that has high traffic enforcement and there revenue instead of being concerned over an officer protecting human life. Be thankful that an officer is there to stop that drunk, that person rushing somewhere because there late, that person day dreaming, that irrate driver thats upset because they don't like the way someone else is driving and they start road rage and that person thats been up all night and getting ready to fall a sleep at the wheel, it could be you, your family or best friends life that Bel-Ridge Officer just saved.
Comment (1/2003): Obviously whoever disagrees that this area is a speedtrap must be an officer of traffic enforcement. This area has long since been known as a place where police officers hide to try and catch people speeding. To anyone reading this message I say, be careful of this area. It is a speed trap.
Comment (2/2003): Bel Ridge is a classic speed trap, whose only reason for existence is to generate traffic fines. If it 170 did not pass through, it would not be able to sustain itself. It's not about safety, its about revenue. Those who believe that this type of "law enforcement" contributes to accident reduction, needs to pay attention to traffic safety studies which have proven there is no corollary between accident rates and aggressive ticket writing.
Comment (2/2003): Saw Bel-Ridge speed trap on north bound I170 on my way to take wife to work going south on I170. On my way back home I set my cruse control at one mile below the speed limit to insure that I would not get a ticket. It was 4:30in the morning and I was the only car on the road. Got a ticket for 75 MPH.My cruise control works just fine. I was just the next car comming down the road. I was an easy $70 for Bel-Ridge. Bel-Ridge is robbing people by abusing the law. The attorney general should put them out of business.
Comment (5/2003): This area is a speed trap. I attend school at UMSL, and see cops hiding around bends in the road on 170 all the time. I received my first ticket today, and it was when I was leaving school and heading south on 170. I was speeding up to get around people and then proceeded to slow down, but the cop saw that I had gone over and pulled me over. As I was moving to the shoulder, I saw another cop who had just pulled somebody else over. This area is a serious speed trap, so don't even pass slow-moving vehicles when traveling through this area of the highway.
Comment (3/2004): This is absolutely correct. Usually the officers sit in unmarked police cars (typically a dark colored dodge intrepid with tinted windows).
Comment (08/2007): yea there a speed trap there i got pulled over 2 days ago. the cop tried sayin that i was goin 78. im gonna fight it they r goin down
Comment (10/2007): Bel Ridge is now using laser. I have a Passport 8500 X50 which went off for the first time in Bel Ridge; I drive through this armpit town daily on the way to work. I failed to make the connection when my detector indicated laser because this is the first time I have seen them use it. I asked the officer how long they have had laser and he said they got it a month ago. HEADS UP PEOPLE, THIS ARMPIT TOWN HAS LASER NOW. The revenue collectors can be found on the shoulder or hiding in the northbound entrance to 170 at Natural Bridge.
Comment (11/2007): ITS FUNNY THE ACCIDENTS ON I-170 HAVE DROPPED 80% OVER THWE LAST 7 YEARS I SAY THEY NEED TO DO MORE
Comment (04/2008): Bel Ridge only exists because they are able to milk unsuspecting motorists for cash. I\'m going to try to get my own little town started near a highway and put cops all over it. Then I can justify milking the motorists as \'a safety issue\'. To the previous poster- you\'re either a completely oblivious tool or a LEO in Bel Ridge, trying to justify your existence. I would sure like to see a link for the stats that you came up with.
