DOT Portable scales set up to catch Trucks avoiding St. Clair scales. Once weekly. Some make it, some don't. Nice to see trucks with Nuclear Placards doing 75 down a windy 2 lane in dilapidated equipment. Maybe Us locals out to tip the cops.

Comment (1/2003): In March of 2000 I was pulled over one morning by the police officer in Beufort while driving to Jefferson City. I was within visual sight(approximately 50 yards) of the towns boundaries and the 55 MPH speed limit sign. I saw the officer sitting in the parking lot of a church at the end of town. I began to accerlerate from 35 to 55. The officer pulled me over and said that I had been going 60 MPH all the way through the town. I attempted to argue with the officer and demanded to see his radar gun. At that point he pulled out his gun and forced me out of my car and hand cuffed me. The officer then placed me in his car and called me a "smart ass" He then demanded I sign the ticket or I would be immediately taken to jail. I was on a schedule so instead of playing out this insanity I went on and signed the ticket. the officer let me go.

Comment (4/2003): As a Beaufort resident, I can confirm that we don't have any city cops. It could possibly have been a Franklin County sheriff or MO Highway Patrol, but the fact that we also do NOT have a church anywhere along Hwy 50 in town makes this story suspect. The city of Leslie, 2 miles west of Beaufort, does have a two churches in a row at the east end of Highway 50, but they also are lacking any city cops.

Comment (7/2003): It was most likely the city of Gerald they do have a church on Hwy 50 & do have a police department.

Comment (9/2003): The story does not have the whole truth. If such happened you would not have let your shirt tail hit your butt before you could get to an attorney.

Beaufot city limits is only about 1/4 of a mile long on hwy. 50. Beaufort does not have a police force but between 10:00 pm and 4:00am Franklin county does set up radar in Beaufort. Most of the time it is where Hy. 50 and Hy. 185 intersect. They usually sit in a Voss Market parking lot right on the highway with their lights off. They are also just pulled off to the side of the road sometimes.
