This little 'burg unitl recently, had billbaords posted by locals telling folks to observe their speed(s). After a bypass was built around the town, the city promptly annexed 5 miles of new highway and the land right of way to allow the issueing of citations. After complaints to the state, the DOT stepped in, slapped there hands and legally bound the city fathers to pull the city limits back to the original boundaries. Watch your speed in town as well as the overpass into town. Highway Patrol, 'nuff said.
Comment (12/2002): I have been through this town on Hwy 54 everyday for a few years. I was stopped once in that time for speeding. I was going 13 miles an hour over. I stayed nice to the officer and he did not give me a ticket. They do stop a lot of people but do not hand out tickets to everyone apparently.
Comment (6/2004): The original reason for the annexation was to get the DOT to build an overpass intersection, rather than an at-grade intersection. The speed trap was an afterthought by enterprising local authorities.

Highway 54 runs outside of the city of Auxvasse but there is approx. 1 mile of the highway that is within the city limits. Local police sit at exit ramp and ticket individuals going over speed limit. The city encourages you to pay an additional $80.00 fine to have the ticket converted to a parking fine because "You don't want the points do you?"
